Knyom som chole bontoob tuk baan tei?
Can I enter the room?

Is "easy" since It is close to
Koat chole bontoob baan tei?
Does he enter the room or not?

But the tuk I do not understand. What does it mean?

Thanks a lot. I appreciate. Shopping now. I reply more later.
No.

[Baan tei] is different from just [tei].

[statement] + [baan tei]
to ask for permission.

Could I please use your motorbike [baan tei]?
Could he please use the bathroom [baan tei]?

[statement] + [tei]
to ask a yes-no question

You go shopping now [tei]?
He is in the bathroom now [tei]?
You like a glass of water [tei]?

On a sidenote: I write 'tuk' for water where Explorer uses 'dtuk'. Bontoop (d)tuk means bathroom.

The word for enter is joel.

Some people use spelling which originated with the French and use ch for the j sound. You need to pronounce it j.

I am get the impression some people pronounce it ch, and speak Khmer badly.

ចូល (to enter) isn't romanized as j**l generally.

It's common to convert the ច to ch. At least that's what I learned, and how Google does it.

It's fine Explorer, keep dreaming about the 'French spelling' and your conversions. Feel free to use your own conversions.

Knyom som chole bontoob tuk baan tei?
What you are saying is not technically correct. You could say any of the following:

សូម ចូល បន្ទប់ ទឹក

ឱ្យ ខ្ញុំ ចូល បន្ទប់ ទឹក ទេ

ឱ្យ ខ្ញុំ ចូល បន្ទប់ ទឹក បាន ទេ

You could include more words at the beginning to make it a longer sentence.

Yes, you could say all, and all have a different meaning.

សូម ចូល បន្ទប់ ទឹក
saum chaul bantob tuk

Please enter the bathroom

ឱ្យ ខ្ញុំ ចូល បន្ទប់ ទឹក ទេ
aoy khnhom chaul bantob tuk tei

Can I enter the bathroom? (yes no question)

ឱ្យ ខ្ញុំ ចូល បន្ទប់ ទឹក បាន ទេ
aoy khnhom chaul bantob tuk baan tei

Can I enter the bathroom? (formally asking permission)

Thanks. Definitely useful for me. This is from a book that doesn't go into the details so much. That's why I mistakenly thought the "ban te" was a yes/no question.

Sorry for poor quality. Imgur doesn't approve of text scans, maybe??

Here is a better copy

I will stick to the simplest forms and try to cover up "rude" grammar with polite attitude. Sometimes I even add "please" in English to show politeness and that mistakes are expected at my level. To get through to housekeeping I finally had to use "ort somaat" which they repeated and smiled.

"bantoub tuk" I should have understood. Explorer also explained it but I was on the move and just read quickly. Probably a better word. I had some problems yesterday with the. "tae bangkun nuv aenae".

Thanks, very useful. I will probably come up with more questions. :)

In those books the spelling is quite different from how it is pronounced. It will be good when you have a Cambodian to tell you the pronunciation.

I would say: tdaa bongoon noe anaa

Which could be translated as: is toilet at where

It is probably more polite to say bathroom, but it is not really important. It is good to know both. I needed to use the bathroom at one place, and asked permission. They had one room with a shower and another room with a toilet. They asked me which one.
