the staring and the spying

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Tis a piece of cake Living in Cambo after 13 years in the Barbaric Philippines. Much less "stink eyes" here, although I have been keeping it riel and have only lived here for 18 months in the more frequently vistied places. Koh Kong and Koh Sdach was as rough and remote as I choose to spend extended time in...I'm sure the stares and gawking are similar to Pi. in the boonies...I like being JUST another Barang amongst the many here in S.R....and have not noticed staring and spying.

Barang's have a reputation for having a large dik. That's what the girls tell each other and giggle about. I have never noticed anyone checking out my (or others) nether regions though, and I am fairly observant about this kind of thing.

Lady across the street would always stare at me and chat it up with the other old lady. I just returned the favor stared and pretended I was talking to my mate about them.

Not to be taken to seriously, they aren't meaning to be rude.

I think the staring comes the fact that Khmer and foreigners are very different in nearly every way, tangible and intangible.

WheneverI would go to the market with missus, I get stared at and gossiped about. When I sat down at the food stalls to eat, more staring and gossiping. Finally one of the gossipers confessed to missus.

She was so impressed that her man was accompanying her to the market, carrying groceries and eating with her. Instead of the normal man tradition of slinking off to the KTV with a bunch of hired girls under his arm.

I’m sure the Khmer men must be gossiping about how stupid I am accompanying missus to the market, instead of slinking off to the KTV and hiring a bunch of girls for company.

To each their own.
