retirement

Post by Muzza »

I am currently in Thailand but need to move as i do not qualify for their new retirement rules; what are the requirements for a retirement visa and procedure? I am 75 years old in good health; have a pension from Australia. Also what is the best mobile carrier in Cambodia; need to have access to my data so i can perform most transaction by phone. Would appreciate any help i can get, have to leave by 10th March.

It is very easy. You get a one month Ordinary visa on arrival in Cambodia, which costs US$35, as opposed to a Tourist visa which is $30. Then you go to a travel agent before the end of the month and ask them to get you a retirement visa extension. That will cost you $280-300. And you're good for one year, repeat after 11 months.
For the moment, the only condition to apply for a retirement visa extension or ER is that you have to be over 55 years of age.
If you have any more questions do a forum search for "retirement visa".

Cambodia is NOT thailand and the health care is sub par, which at 75 i'd be concerned about.

If ur visa is up March 10th, you can go in NOW and do your extension on the old rules, (you have always been allowed to do ur extension up to 45 days in advance)
new rules go into effect march 1st

Note; agents are already quoting 22,000-25,000 to do the whole thing for ya in Pattaya

I heard this week you now have to self certify that you have income at the agent by signing a declaration if you are a new retiree.
I don't have any problem meeting the Thai regs, but I can't be arsed with all the silly faffing about. Far easier to stay here and go there for holidays. No doub, being Thai, they will olose too many retirees and be giving them out free with a lollipop in a few months !
health care in Phnom Penh at least is improving. Central hopsital is a specialist heart hospital and not expensive. The Royal is I think bangkok hopsital so not too good and very expensive. My preference is to use St Louis in bangkok. Christian Charity hospital, cancer centre, very big. 1000 to see a doctor and they have visiting specialists from the big guns. Not much use in an emergency but fine if you need regular checkups for some of those things that afflict us seniors

I thought Jomtien Immigration were getting more efficient the last couple of years I’ve been in, now I realise it’s maybe that more people have had enough and are leaving. Will be a shame if the only reason to bring in more stringent financial rules is to increase the level of corruption in the system, hardly the right message to send out to those that operate legally and more reason to question the direction Thailand is heading in for foreigners.

Good luck op, you’ll probably find Cambodia a pleasant change, certainly a significantly cheaper and easier visa.

Sorry mine is a 90 day report from a previous renewal by agent in November; my reporting date is 16th March, by which they are going to want to see my 800,000 still in my bank account from my renewal dated November 29th, which of course it is not and i still have not had confirmation from my agent whether or not they can help me with that. So plan B has to be in operation for backup, hence all my inquiries.

HUH:
who told u the above underlined? Its NOT true
90 day report has nothing to do with new regulations and they dont go into effect till march 1st anyway>
if u got ur 1 year extension in Nov ur good to go till next nov

BTW if u did ur renewal in Nov ur 90 day would be in Feb not march, if march 16th is ur report date than u got your renewal Dec 17th or so
better look at ur passport :beer3:

just do ur 90 day report online , https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90 ... 7Action.do
or via snail mail 14 days ahead
