Major plus being able to enjoy the view and have a scope about much more than if you're worrying about going the wrong way, having to call the turns.StroppyChops wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 11:50 amYeah, this.JUDGEDREDD wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 11:33 am Passapp is a godsend as you click your location, the location you want to go and there's no bartering or playing backseat mapman.
I think the first time you climb into a PassApp, having given the pickup and endpoints to the app, and can just sit back and relax (as much as one can in PP traffic) you suddenly "get" why it's a good idea, other than pricing.
Also, for those who haven't tried them yet, the passenger seats in the Baja style tuktuks are wider than the traditional remorque style, albeit you only get one bench seat and not two. That is, if you think they're narrower and therefore less comfortable, they're not.
I've noticed organic tuktuk drivers are a lot less highballing than Thailand, only had a few drivers I've had to laugh at and walk off from. Generally it's about 50c more than passapp which I'm fine to pay, ones that quote 4-5dollerydoos for a journey I know is only 1.25 max do annoy me though, I guess people are chancers no matter where you go though
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.

I haven't used Grab yet but installed it last week with an ABA virtual debit card which is cool vs Passapp. One of the quirks with Passapp is that you have the option of setting the destination or not. If you do it'll show an estimated fare.
With Grab you seem to have to enter the destination and then it shows the fixed fare.. Is that right or is there a way not to enter it? No big deal I guess to do so for me but I know Mrs Cargo would prefer to just tell or direct the driver...as she my not know the exact street address.
I might have missed it too but I couldn't find a way to enter the destinaion in Grab via setting a pin on the map...I could only do it via keying in?

Yeah, and also you can call driver with passapp; when he arrives ask him if he will cancel and take the estimated fare instead. Usually they are well happy with that.

And together with every TukTuk I have ever taken, they assist with the bags. (Bellhops do also in the better hotels I stay in and I appreciate it and have come to expect that also) I may have been mistaken to assume this driver was lazy; perhaps they are all the same and none will get out to do it. As I said, if that expectation is wrong though, I can easily adjust my expectations. I can also choose not to hire a car and order a tuktuk who as I said gladly takes my bags, every time! In the end, if the car drivers don't want to step up, its going to be their loss. I am not entitled, nor new to Cambodia or world travel. I just expected something different. Its not an issue of the cost, and if passapp doesn't pay the driver enough, that needs to be settled. I like ordering passapp because its like a metered ride, there is no harassment for my business and no need to negotiate. I would prefer to pay for convenience and comfort and also prefer a car. That's not entitled, its like preferring to go to a restaurant with a better selection of good food and excellent service.DrRawBlueGreen wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 4:52 pm I see it like that. If Rickybobby is an older guy, he may have problems lifting heavy items. Then it’s at least a matter of respect to lift his bags. On the other hand if he is in good shape, it’s not worth the trouble. Then again if it’s common procedure in Cambodia that the driver puts the bags inside, like anywhere in the world, then RickyBobby has a right to complain, although maybe not worth it.

Re: Lazy Passapp Drivers.
Maybe, but I can see that the livery of the vehicle is pretty much meaningless. I’ve been picked up many times by a ‘PassApp’ tuktuk despite ordering on Grab.pczz wrote:I get that but if its a green tuk its grab and if its white its passap as far as I am concerned. I have not seen a grab tuk with a passap number on the windshiledkhmerhamster wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 4:21 pmThere isn’t really such a thing as PassApp drivers and grab drivers. Most drivers are registered on both apps and alternate between them depending on which one is offering fares nearby.pczz wrote:There was a big promo for grab in Aeon. then 2 night ago i got to see their quality driving. 2 going the wrong way down 51 completely blocking the road and some appalling driving elsewhere. I though passap were bad enough but from what i seen so far Grab must be employing drivers sacked by passap for bad driving!fax wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 4:16 am Grab is cheaper and you can cancel ongoing fares.
I don't think that you should tell tuktuk drivers that they're going out of business. It's not a very nice thing to say. You can't blame them for trying to earn money through honest work.
If instead he put the luggage in the trunk we would read about the crazy driver who manhandled your precious Gucci and you probably had your best Chinese teapot in there... Relax
It is interesting though that the generic term for ordering one of the little Tuktuk’s is increasingly becoming ‘call a PassApp’ - despite the platform is being used.

You can set your destination on Grab if you click on the icon at the top right hand corner of your screen.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 12:46 pm I haven't used Grab yet but installed it last week with an ABA virtual debit card which is cool vs Passapp. One of the quirks with Passapp is that you have the option of setting the destination or not. The good thing about setting the destination on Grab is that the fare is fixed, regardless of the route taken by the driver. With the other apps, even if you set the destination, you need to be alert to the driver taking a longer way round, either from ignorance or an intent to inflate the fare.
Finally, Grab offer the benefit of free medical care in the event of an accident.
I agree Grab seems to be less user-friendly for locals. Most struggle with it and find Passapp easier. Westerners often prefer Grab as it is more similar to Uber.

Ah thanks...got it now..wasn't immediately obvious to me. I thought it was confirming the pick up point again. You have to move the map before you can select the destination. You can set your destination on Grab if you click on the icon at the top right hand corner of your screen.
Re: Lazy Passapp Drivers.
If you enter origin and destination then click promo and then type in V3000 today or tomorrow, on Grab, all rides up to 4km in Phnom Penh are 3000 riel. Longer rides are 4000 riel off.
Re: Lazy Passapp Drivers.
Are these fares sustainable though? I often to a 2km trip which on passap is usually under 2500riel unless the traffic is bad, but a few times the drivers have asked for tips. i am seeing more and more of these little tin coffins being repaired or stalled at the roadside. What was profitable in a new rig may not be so good now they are getting on abit and needing maintenance. gearboxes seem to be particular problem. Even though they are cheaper to run than a tuk tuk there must be limits?

Re: Lazy Passapp Drivers.
Yuh, whether you're riding a moto behind these indian tuk tuks or sitting inside and they change up a gear, you hear this almighty 'clunk' which makes you think the gearbox is gonna fall out. Surely this is really bad design and must drive everybody nuts.. Then again, I got in one once that had an auto box and it was smooth as..albeit presumably more expensive to buy.
