Re: Lazy Passapp Drivers.
I use passapp only, not grab. I find grab more expensive, and dislike set routes.
Never been overcharged. Sometimes the passapp app does freeze for both drivers and customers.
I just offer them a price for the trip without passapp.
I have no tolerance for trad tuk tuks. The price can be the same, or they can be rude and look for $10 to cross town.

Re: Lazy Passapp Drivers.
Apart from our local known drivers ("up to you") we don't use traditional tuktuks any more - I'm just so far over the game of haggling a price, starting at stupid tourist price, and just walk away. Occasionally a driver may tell us he hasn't eaten today and we can set a fair price but otherwise not interested. It's a weird thing that it seems like most drivers know me, or know of me, as the barang who drives tuktuks, and we often get asked where our tuktuk is today and why we aren't driving it. That usually indicates a fair offer is on the way, too. It's also weird that drivers who we don't recall having driven us home before can take us straight to our house without directions, and we've moved in the past 18 months. Weird reason. Standard price is probably more expensive, but promotions are frequent which drops price way down - can’t remember the last journey I made without a promotion. Currently they have an offer of 3,000 riel for any journey less than 4km. Grab are also more professional with swift customer service.Jerry Atrick wrote:I use passapp only, not grab. .
Also there is no such thing as set routes. Most drivers will freestyle a route if they believe there is traffic on the recommended route. And as it is a fixed price it doesn’t matter if they drive an extra 3km to avoid traffic.

I can't be bothered to fuck around with promotions.
And most of the trips I get are quite long anyhow.

No fucking around needed, just click "Book" button then set pins on the map.

My main grievance is trying to get the location sorted via Google maps even for well known places lol... Passapp is a godsend as you click your location, the location you want to go and there's no bartering or playing backseat mapman. One time in Bangkok I had a driver pull out a magnifying glass to view my phone, I'm not sure he really needed it as it was the king power mall which is pretty much a landmark in Bangkok if I'm not mistaken, he still seemed to not know where it was, I did admire the effort he put in to try and give the illusion that it was a backroad in the middle of no where, granted he may have been legit but it still raised a smile for me to see it whipped out.
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.
Re: Lazy Passapp Drivers.
My main gripe with Grab is that whenever I open the map and start to choose an origin and destination, it interrupts me to ask me how was my last ride, which may have been days ago. Then I have to exit that screen and start all over.

I think the first time you climb into a PassApp, having given the pickup and endpoints to the app, and can just sit back and relax (as much as one can in PP traffic) you suddenly "get" why it's a good idea, other than pricing.
Also, for those who haven't tried them yet, the passenger seats in the Baja style tuktuks are wider than the traditional remorque style, albeit you only get one bench seat and not two. That is, if you think they're narrower and therefore less comfortable, they're not.

Re: Lazy Passapp Drivers.
I get that but if its a green tuk its grab and if its white its passap as far as I am concerned. I have not seen a grab tuk with a passap number on the windshiledkhmerhamster wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 4:21 pmThere isn’t really such a thing as PassApp drivers and grab drivers. I don't think that you should tell tuktuk drivers that they're going out of business. It's not a very nice thing to say. You can't blame them for trying to earn money through honest work.
If instead he put the luggage in the trunk we would read about the crazy driver who manhandled your precious Gucci and you probably had your best Chinese teapot in there... Relax
