Angkor Pursuing Oil and Gas Opportunities In Cambodia
InvestorIntel | February 06, 2019 | No Comments

February 6, 2019 (Source) — Angkor Gold Corp. (TSXV: ANK and OTC: ANKOF) (“Angkor” or “the Company”) CEO Stephen Burega is pleased to announce that Angkor is actively pursuing oil and gas opportunities in Cambodia in addition to its ongoing mineral exploration projects.

“Angkor is currently in discussions with Cambodia’s oil and gas authorities regarding pursuing oil and gas concessions and available licenses,” reported Angkor CEO Stephen Burega. “We have been looking at the potential of oil and gas in Cambodia for the last 5 years.”

Cambodia has traditionally been viewed primarily as a country with mining and mineral resource opportunities, however, sizeable oil and gas reserves have been developed on three sides of the country – in the Gulf of Thailand to the west, the Khorat Plateau of Thailand to the north, and in the Vietnamese Cuu Long Basin of the South China Sea to the south.

“The sedimentary basins inland in Cambodia have never been systematically explored,” said Angkor Executive Chairman Mike Weeks, “partially because of previous historical regional instability and a poor understanding of local geology as it relates to hydrocarbons. We see the potential for petroleum accumulations in Cambodia indicated by onshore natural oil seepages, the presence of sedimentary rocks and geological structures that may trap and hold oil and gas, and the similarity of geology of areas adjacent to Cambodia where oil and gas has been found and is being produced.”

To assist in this expansion of Angkor’s resource focus, Angkor will be working with recognized oil and gas exploration expert Dr. Lorne Rosenthal, who has worked in oil and gas exploration in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin for over 40 years.

Lorne Rosenthal has a PhD in geology from the University of Manitoba. He worked in a number of different staff and consultant positions, including Well Site Geologist, Exploration Geologist, Area Manager, Senior Research Scientist, VP Exploration, and finally President and CEO. He has been either employed or retained under contract by many oil companies in Calgary including Unocal, Sceptre, Murphy, Chevron, PanCanadian, and PetroCanada.

“I have been reviewing all available data and the geological setting for several years,” said Rosenthal, “I would say that parts of Cambodia have similar geology to some of the world’s important oil-bearing basins.”

Multiple Oil Seeps Documented On Angkor’s New Block VIII License
October 9, 2019

Angkor Gold Corp. (TSXV: ANK and OTC: ANKOF) (“Angkor” or “the Company”) CEO Stephen Burega is pleased to announce that it has received a report identifying a number of well-distributed oil seeps within and around the mapped Tertiary rift basins of Angkor’s new Block VIII oil and gas license.

“We are very pleased to have this data locating and testing seeps on our new oil and gas license,” said Angkor CEO Stephen Burega. “The testing results from Schlumberger on the oil seeps confirm surface hydrocarbons. With the large amount of work and data compiled on Angkor’s 7,300 km2 Block VIII, we have multiple targets. This allows us to greatly speed up our initial exploration and allows us to focus on already identified areas of interest.”

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Hold.
I mean, hold off buying - until Stern's Stock Review publishes its impeccably researched stiletto stab tomorrow morning.

This appears to be another a failing mining company desperately using a cheaply bought exploration licence and "Cambodia's untapped hydrocarbon potential" to raise some much needed, rapidly disappearing, funds from dumb-cluck retail investors.
Share price is tanking. Full details in tomorrow's business edition.

UOB-KayHian has maintained its “buy” call on KrisEnergy with a target price of $1.18 cents. ... With the strong production volumes partially offset the impact of lower oil prices, KrisEnergy’s 3Q14 revenue rose 33.4% from a year ago to US$18.2 million.

^^ This broker recommendation from 2014.
The share price was .84 cents.
The earnings were $18 million.
The price of oil was $87/barrel.

Today
Oil price less than $60/barrel
Losses $1-200 million annually for past 3/4 years
Share price .03 cents

Company's health today >>>
"Cambodia’s Block A offshore Apsara oil field is in crisis as Singapore-based KrisEnergy attempts to restructure nearly $500 million in debt after filing for bankruptcy in August.

Block A was supposed to produce Cambodia’s first crude oil next year but analysts are beginning to doubt the firm will reach its goal as it continually struggles with the repayment of hundreds of millions of dollars to banks and foreign creditors.
The firm is saddled with $476.8 million of debt and has already stopped principal loan and interest repayments since August.
“Cambodia’s plan to produce its first crude oil by 2020 appears to have hit a new snag after Singapore’s KrisEnergy filed for bankruptcy in August amid low oil prices and weak oil and gas production,” stated a report by Fitch Solutions Macro Research.

KrisEnergy requested six months of court protection from banks and creditors but was denied at a hearing Monday.
The Singaporean court denied the six month request and ordered the firm to restructure its debt in three months time."
Not yet drowned like KrisEnergy, but seems to be on a similar path.

I started doing some in-depth digging into "Blue Sky Mining" aka "Angkor Resources Corp" formally known as "Angkor Gold"
but was not in the mood for reading financial reports.
So I decided instead to get waylaid by ancient history.

An interesting and quite detailed history of gold in SEA here, including in Cambodia
https://journals.openedition.org/archeosciences/2072
(NB, the dating terms BPE and BP are archaeological terms, you have to try and figure normal dates by cross referencing and reading the context)

The financials of slowly fading ARCorp, and its ten year history of sky-high hopes and zero production, will be forthcoming.
