Woman Jumps from Chroy Chongvar Bridge After US$40,700 Scam by "Facebook Friend"
Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: In the early hours of February 01, 2019, at about 12:30 am, a 39-year-old woman tried to commit suicide by jumping from Chroy Chongvar bridge, after she was scammed on Facebook by someone presenting themselves as a Khmer American Facebook "friend".
According to the victim, she was desperate, because she had lost a lot of money that she sent to someone that she thought was a Khmer-American Facebook "friend". The first time she sent her friend US$200, then they asked for $2500, and the third time she sent $38,000. But, after the last transaction, the victim was unable to contact her "friend" anymore; then she realized that she had been scammed.
The woman's husband was also angry with her for being so foolish, so she attempted to kill herself by jumping from Chroy Changvar bridge, but fortunately she was rescued by the Cham fishermen who live under the bridge. [CEO News says: These Cham fishermen under the Chroy Chongvar bridge are true heros who save lives.]
After the incident, the police took the victim to the police station for questioning and reeducation. Then the police called to her family to take the woman back home.

Spectacularly stupid.
Those fishermen have a standing bounty for fishing out live ones, I'm told.

Probably the same price as erecting a safety net under the bridge. It's standed procedure when construction around hi-rise buildings, Why not bridges "
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.

The answer is to make the handrails higher.
But people may just look for another place.

Speaking of fishing, that cop seems to be doing a good job riffling through her bag...

Nobody cares about the woman?
There are people who cannot imagine that there are other ways of life than their own life.

She is married? So what was the supposed relationship with the Facebook friend? Just really good buddies?

I cannot imagine, even with my most active imagination, how someone could ever be duped like this? It totally boggles my mind. I do understand however, how she could feel totally suicidal about it. I hope she gets some help and can recover.

Judging from her clothes, bag, and jewelry (or lack of), she doesn’t come off as rich or well connected. Her husband scolding her for losing over $4000 USD (and not beating her severely), means that they aren’t dirt poor, either.
Why would she send a friend in America over $4000? My best bet would be an immigration visa for her and her husband. Can’t buy one in the KOW, and the amount is too small for land.
Did she perhaps meet the Khmeramerican lady who lives in Washington, DC and who was bragging to missus’ sister that she could get an immigration visa in 3 months?
A little silver tongue on one hand, coupled with a gullible desperation on the other, goes a long way.
