Australian nabbed over sexual abuse of six boys


Siem Reap Provincial Police on Tuesday arrested an Australian tourist who allegedly sexually abused six boys, aged 11 to 14, in Siem Reap city.

Colonel Chea Heng, provincial Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department chief, yesterday identified the suspect as Mulroy Garry Paul, 69, living in a rental house in Slor Kram commune.

He said that Mr Mulroy was arrested on Tuesday by provincial anti-human trafficking police at his rental house following a complaint by the victims.

“After his arrest, he became sick and was sent to the provincial referral hospital for treatment,” Col Heng said. “He is still in the hospital.”

He added that Mr Mulroy will be sent to the provincial court for questioning after he recovers.

Khoem Vando, a child protection specialist with APLE Cambodia, yesterday said that according to his organisation’s investigation, Mr Mulroy in November last year persuaded the six boys, who are from poor families, to have sex with him in exchange for food and money.

Remembering that the accused is innocent until proven guilty, his posts on social media remain inappropriate to say the least.
