25 Tonnes of Garlic Destroyed in Sihanoukville

Post by prahocalypse now »

The competent authorities in Sihanoukville burnt 25 tonnes of garlic because it contained toxic chemicals.

Locals who live downwind from the fire complained about the smell and said that they thought a Frenchman was being cremated.

Remember kids: When you find toxic chemicals, be sure to burn them and gather a crowd of people to stand around inhaling the fumes.

Well, I guess we know what they think of Frenchmen.

Authorities destroy 25 tonnes of tainted garlic
Authorities in Preah Sihanouk province’s Prey Nop district yesterday destroyed about 25 tonnes of garlic containing the chemical disulfoton.

Commerce Minister Pan Sorasak, who witnessed the destruction, told local media that about 25 tonnes of garlic containing disulfoton, which was recently seized at the border with a neighbouring country, was burned yesterday morning.

“The garlic contained the chemical disulfoton so it was not safe for consumption,” he said. “The chemical can affect the nervous system, cause diarrhoea and vomiting, and if consumed in large quantity, can even lead to death.”

Mr Sorasak said that his officials are equipped to test imported products to see if they contain chemicals that may affect people’s health. He also called for more stringent checks to be carried out.

Why is the country of origin not being named?

Pretty obvious I suppose.

China produces 80% of the worlds garlic. Those look like the pink mesh bags it usually comes in.
"which was recently seized at the border with a neighbouring country"
This seems weird to me since Sihanouk isn't on the border. Why bring it here to burn? To my knowledge there is no Camcontrol office in Prey Nop.
up to you...
