Short Story

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Glad you liked it! (seriously, it's okay to not like something I write; I'm not offended).
Yes, definitely not my cup of tea. I can't honestly pick who this story is aimed at to enjoy. Also slavish on anglicisation of Khmer (it is 'chop' not 'chope', etc.), you'd do well to get Lambo over for a cuppa to iron out the little details. You also maligned Toul Kork, this is a serious violation of Spigz Code, article 12.

I also don't like durian or prahok, and much more nasty in my words to describe those I can assure you! #ToughCustomer :hattip:
It's a long vowel sound, which is why I added the e. I speak Khmer.
actually "Stop" is spelt ឈប់ it has a ់ Diacritical mark called a Banták, this shortens the preceding vowel sound, ឈប់ is pronounced and spelt like "Chhop"
American accent. CC's Chhope is our Chhop :)

True story.

Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

i was mainly replying to her comment about it being a long vowel sound, when its actually the opposite,
the extra emphasis on the Chh consonant makes it sound long, like in the word Chhmoah(name) or Chhnea(win), due to the dash above the 'P' sound it makes the connecting 'O' in Chhop shorter,

i had guessed her spelling of "Chope" was probably due to accent as i just saw it as rhyming with "Hope" :plus1:

Accent influences spelling, yes.

For me, I would have spelled chhmoah (name) --with my accent--ch'muah. I know how to say all of these words; spelling them phonetically is not my forte'.

'Chhmuah' is probably (depending on accent) a more correct way or writing it, i just have a bad habit of writing Khmer phonetically the same as the Khmers,
tbh i did try changing it a bit to a more 'barang' way as the Khmers actually spell the words as 'Chhmoas' and 'Chhnes'

Khmers write an 'S' for a final 'H' sound - there is no final 'S' sound in Khmer,
so when the 'S' ស consonant is at the end of the word it is pronounced as a 'H' , the ះ Vowel which also has a H sound and is the final vowel in the 2 above words, both words also end in a 'H' sound, so instinctively they also spell the words with a S instead of a H, they probably do this so it doesnt get confused with the actual 'H' consonant, because even in words like បេះដូង where the vowel is mid word, they write it as 'Besdong' instead of 'Behdoung' how its pronounced

He's got the water bit, but as these possessions occur in chronological order he's still working on his fishing! :hattip:
