Talking to locals which immediately understand my (sometimes dark) humor. Okay, I have to admit, that doesn't work with all europeans either, but with cambodians it hardly works

My biggest fear is the food. How common is food born illness? I've eating all over the world is some pretty grimy places. My srey is a great cook and even here in the states I'm weary of eating at some of the Asian food places. From what I've seen of the restaurants in PP they rival Tijuana for cleanliness. I will more than likely have enough alcohol in my blood system to kill more viruses. Did y'all get sick in the first months or were you fine from the start?

I miss being able to sleep past 6am. It gets light so early here they should put their clocks forward an hour and be in the same time zone as Malaysia. And likewise it gets dark too early. Same probably goes for Thailand and Vietnam as well.

I'm looking for something that's on par with Banff, Monteverde, Yosemite, Torres Del Paine, Gorges du Verdon, Alps... You get the drift. A place that's truly breathtaking. Nothing like Bokor "mountain".

I didn't mean to belittle you by dismissing bokor mountain. Please accept my most sincere apologies if I offended you... The picture you posted is beautiful, but that's any given day during spring, summer, or fall in Socal. I was expecting more from Cambodia tbh. Never trust what you see on Google Images I guess...

I’m rather amused by some of the things folks miss, as I see many of the same deficiencies in Europe, only coupled with much higher prices, less can-do, too many bloody rules which shackle the wrong people, and frequently rubbish food.
I feel more at Home in Cambodia for a number of reasons.

What do I miss about home, while I’m here in Europe/UK?
The family, mainly.
The food. But certainly not all of it. (Those bloody eggs she eats...)
The weather

The main consolation is the availability of Guinness...

I guess home brewing is out of the question? Supplies hard to get?

You haven't lived in Cambodia until you've had the chronic shits. You aren't escaping it no matter what you do, where you eat or how paranoid you are about washing your hands. The great thing is that using the bum hose means your nipsy doesn't end up savagely red raw, that's something I think should be transported back to the West.

I'm with you here. The draught cans and bottles just don't do it. I remember mapping out draught Guinness in advance of a holiday I took to Hong Kong.

Some other things I missed:
-Food options in NY/NJ, always better Pizza, Mexican, Burgers, Xiao Long Bao
- Driving -> People drive too recklessly
- Courtesy -> Not cutting lines, giving right of way to people/drivers
- Safety -> Top hospitals everywhere. Nobody asks me why a car seat is necessary in my car
- Lack of weddings -> Tired of being invited to so many damned weddings. If only they would vary the food/music a bit these could be fun

When I am out of Cambodia I miss these about Cambodia:
- The feeling -> Something about the madness of the city makes you feel more alive
- Access to medicine -> Can't just walk in and get medicine, need to pay doctor first. Bothers me when I know what's wrong (i.e. strep throat)
- Prices -> A house under $500K would be a shitbox in need of repair. Rents in my area are $1.7K for 1 bedroom. Beer? Fugghetaboutit
- Weather -> I hate cold weather, give me 90 every day
- Motorbike -> I have gotten my license but the prices are silly here, give me my airblade back.

I do miss the pristine landscapes of home!
