1 Dead in Vireak Buntham Night Bus Crash

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

And what if, just if.... the pick up was in the wrong?

And what if,,, the CEO News / Newspapers got it all wrong.

Haven't checked the newspapers yet, but here's a quote from CEO:
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and Pursat police have impounded both vehicles while the case is being investigated.
I have the feeling some posters are jumping to conclusions a bit too fast. I just noticed on the pictures the pickup has not switched on any lights. Great Cambodian habit....

No, No, No, you got it all wrong again. The driver turned OFF the lights to save battery and fuel, ,,, Thats the great Cambodian habit.

Well, that excludes the option the driver never turned them on then.

Just a cursory look at the photos from the scene of the accident reveals that the Bus driver was trying to pass on a bridge.

History Lesson.

Vireak Buntham was the first and only company running big buses from Koh Kong to Sre Amble / PP when the bridges were not even finished. You transferred from
one bus to another bus on the other side of the rivers.
Before that, he ran mini buses on that route as the road was being built and as with the Camry taxis you had to get out , take your shoes off and walk while the drivers built up speed and charged through the muddy sections . Often the passengers had to get behind and push.
