Out of interest, does anyone know of any westerners that have tried to enter a casino in Chinaville and been knocked back?

No probs at Nagaworld but that is PP..

Why would they refuse entry to people who want to give them all their money? I can't imagine a black drug dealer ever saying "fuck off white boy, I don't sell crack to honkies".

The problem of course with these mainland Chinese tourists is 99% of them don't speak a word of english.

So when they travel out of their homeland, they are like lost sheep. Hence they are shepherded around in groups with a tour guide with a silly little flag so they don't get lost. And they are taken to shops/restaurants/hotels/casinos where they feel comfortable where chinese is spoken.

I'm hearing more and more instances of western/khmer kids learning chinese at schools now in the KOW. So the khmers can see the writing on the wall and where their future lies..

Well, you'd think that but I dunno.. so just asking..

Maybe they think it would give the place a bad image and they don't want other foreigners.. Isn't it the case khmers aren't allowed in already? I think I read that somewhere (altho maybe that was a khmer requirement)?

Some of the casinos certainly have non-Chinese foreign interests involved as I've seen them being advertised. Certainly the photos I see of some of them seem to have a mixed clientele. Plenty of khmer gambling in them.

Not quite true.

I work with/for Chinese and a couple of them have told me that everyone learns English in school. But mainly reading and writing. And as for their own language, they learn Pinyin first. Meaning that they learn to read and write "Nǐ hǎo" before they learn to read and write "你好".
Most younger people can understand spoken English, but they don't want to speak it because they don't focus much on speaking English at school.

I believe the other relevant factor in zero dollar tourism is that the tours to Cambodia (and other places with Chinese shops, hotels etc) are marketed at a very low cost. Therefore the operator can only make it work if the customers spend money in such a way that he gets kickbacks (or owns the places himself).

Fair enough. My assertion is based mostly on the chinese tourists I've come across in my travels who don't seem to have any knowledge of reading/writing/speaking unless they're from HK or Malaysia and in any event are mainly older. A friend works in a riverside restaurant and says nearly all the chinese come in to have a look at the menu..realise it's in English and walk straight out again.

Sounds like the newer generation will be a better in this regard tho.

We walked into one in Otres Village just out of curiosity
typical Chinese design, flashy looking on the outside but inside just open plan, tables and people smoking and gambling, no usual glitz of a casino, exposed backs of computers and cables and cheap no thrills decor
no one seemed to care we were there, we didn't even contemplate staying...don't think we saw a bar which didn't help

In the Chinese "owned" establishments do they allow the Chinese tourists to use the yuan? What about the SHV casinos? Seems that with the mutual love between the US and China that using the US $ probably does not sit well with many Chinese. Although the yuan value to $ is now the highest in 2 years.

If not now, it will probably not be too long then we will all have to use the yuan in Cambodia.
