Monks Behaving Badly - Stop That Now!
31 December 2018

Several scandals have rocked the Buddhist temples of Cambodia this year, with revelations of monks with mistresses, drug habits, and displaying all kinds of behavior unbecoming to Buddhist monks.
Koh Santepheap news has posted a warning about monks behaving badly. They say it is not a good look for the state religion, and that the public is complaining while state and religious officials look elsewhere.
Photos from social media of a chief monk, recently defrocked, leading a life of debauchery.

They are human.

There are people who cannot imagine that there are other ways of life than their own life.

Isn't the monk thing a come-and-go arrangement where you volunteer to be a monk for a certain duration and abide by all the monk rules and live in the Wat but then finish your stint and go back to your normal life incuding wine, women and song and whatever? So maybe this guy was breaking the rules while being a monk but it's not necessarily as scandalous as a Catholic priest caught in similar photos.

A lad in my Khmer family quit when he got sick of it.Stinkman wrote: ↑Mon Dec 31, 2018 10:26 pm Isn't the monk thing a come-and-go arrangement where you volunteer to be a monk for a certain duration and abide by all the monk rules and live in the Wat but then finish your stint and go back to your normal life incuding wine, women and song and whatever? This celibacy thing - it just ain't natural. Can only lead to problems.

Those photos don't look so bad. Maybe reading about Catholic priest scandals for years just makes the monk scandals pale in comparison.
