British tourist found dead, possibly murdered, in Bangkok Hotel

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

British tourist found dead, possibly murdered, in Bangkok Hotel

Post by sigmoid »

British father, 31, is found dead in red-light area Bangkok hotel just hours after arriving - as police investigate to see if he was killed

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... iving.html

Luke Ramage, of Consett, County Durham, was reportedly found by a receptionist at his hotel in Bangkok's red light district, lying on a bed with bruises to his shoulders and legs.

It was feared the 31-year-old had been murdered as there were signs of a struggle and marks that indicated he could have been in a fight.

The safe in the father-of-two's room at the Bavana Hotel was left open, no valuables were inside and cigarette packs were left scattered around the floor, The Sun reported.

A friend of Ramage was said to have told hotel workers he was in trouble, then disappeared before the police arrived on December 14.

I wonder what the hell happened there? They need to find his "friends" and hear their side.
They looked like a tough enough bunch in the picture posted from Bangkok,
I hope they didn't get lairy or anything,
Thais can be a touchy bunch as I found out myself once.
I was bleeding all over the place like a fucking pig
and I had done fuck all wrong.
Since then I've been
extremely polite
while there,
so all good.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

You can bring that to the bank.
As soon as I can’t take thai bull shit anymore and feel like arguing with them I head back to Cambodia as if I was running away from a wildfire.

The dad-of-two went out the area's bars and initial reports said the safe in his hotel, which had no valuables inside, was open.
Now, the boss of the Bavana hotel says Luke was seen on CCTV staggering through the reception with his pals trying to get him into his room.
They took a lift to the fifth room then left him on the bed before walking back out to go to continue drinking, it's claimed.
Cops say they don't suspect foul play in Luke's death
''We don't think there is anything suspicious. We expect it was an accident so we are not investigating it. It's finished.
''We found the two friends and asked them questions about what they had been doing and what time they came back.
''They said they left their friend because they did not know what to do. They checked out of the hotel and said they would go to Pattaya.
''We have not arrested them. I don't think there was any foul play from them.”

No autopsy ? No drug tests ? Because he had been drinking, he must have died from alcohol ? It may have been an accident, but he must have died from something.
Unlike Cambodian police, Thai police in Bangkok have access to forensic specialists and laboratories, and a more professional diagnosis would have surely been possible. So, why are the Bangkok cops acting like Cambodian police from Kampong Speu ?
Trying to cover up the cause of death like this will only encourage media speculation, (see The Sun), and still more rumours about western tourists getting bumped off in Thailand. Counter-productive from the Thais point of view, I would have thought.
Whatever the reason, the guy was only 31, and he'd just arrived in SEA. Very sad for his family. RIP.

The only rational explanation is that his mates paid off the cops. Were they travelling together I wonder.

It is also about presenting a good image of the country. If they were honest about how many people get murdered, tourists would stay away.

That is how it is in Thailand, Cambodia, and some other countries. Crime is hidden, covered up. The aim is to present a fake image that everything is good. A lot of gullible people actually believe it.
