The difference in the completion percentage figures quoted here are interesting: over 20pc now (June 2022) against 22pc in March. (See above post.)

Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport Over 20 Percent Completed
AKP Phnom Penh, June 10, 2022 --
Image
The construction of new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport has completed more than 20 percent now.

The update was shared recently by H.E. Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Under-Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).

Despite some emerging challenges, the first-phase construction process will be finished in March 2023 as planned, he said.

H.E. Sinn Chanserey Vutha explained that during the COVID-19 outbreak, the construction team faced difficulties especially with material transportation but are still well on track.

Worth some US$900 million, the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport will play an important role especially in tourism both in the province and Cambodia.

The new airport is located in Tayek commune, Sotr Nikum district and is about 50 kilometres from Siem Reap provincial city.

I can't see why the wanted or needed a new one. There are less than 20 flights a day into Siem Reap. Koh Samui has nearly double that and that is similar to REP (one runway, staircases only on and off the planes, a basic regional airport that does the job)

They built it 50km away from Siem Reap, so that's at least an hour away, and now they want a monorail to get into town (more debt).

What a waste of money.

More debt.

More 'gratitude' for the official pen wielders.

Less regular work and income for locals (but they are poor so f**k 'em)

Sounds like a Win Win Lose deal to me.

There’s a Khmer on social media saying each person in Cambodia now owes about $2000 in debt to China. Total Chinese debt divided by people in Cambodia.

What will happen when the masters come to collect?

More Facebook blathering. Cambodia's foreign debt to all countries stands at about $10 billion, which works out at about $625 per head.
