Thailand is not cheap

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. Thailand is not cheap

Post by Beerinthemorning »

chicken rice in MBK is 70 baht now.

a beer in soi cowboy 190 baht.

mototaxi quoting 140 baht for a short ride.

BTS skytrain 37 baht for a 4 stop ride.

hostel prices on par with australia.

bad street food averages 35-40 baht for grissle and rice.

a san miguel beer from 7/11 is 45 baht.

These prices are rediculous.

a ripoff and the baht is 23.6 to the AUD$$$.

no good.

I swart chicken rice around my home in Ramintra and also Ratchada is 40-50 baht. Never over 50 baht unless special, still it's only 55 baht. Never heard of 70 baht. Could it be the 70 baht chicken rice is around tourist area? Or could it be the 70 baht chicken rice is sold by some famous guy?

Motor taxi in my area is 20-30 baht, bringing someone from small soi to main road, could be 2-4km

This is special 40 baht special (35 baht for normal)

This meal with my maid costs 90 baht because with 2 cups of ice and a bottle of water. Both full.

I can understand perhaps in the mall like MBK it’s 70 baht but then ordinary Thais will not pay 70 baht for a chicken rice.

BitM shows exactly the prices a tourist will pay. Tourists far outnumber resident expats. A tourist is not going to take the MRT to Lat Prao soi 23 and sit on a plastic stool with a 55 baht big Leo.

A tourist will pay 120 baht for a small bottle of beer at Herrity's on Suk 33/1 or 180 baht for a Black Label. Or 300-400 baht for a 16 oz/470 ml craft beer at Wishbeer on Suk 62 or Craft Beer on soi 23. Or at W District, a big Tiger is 100 baht and BL 150 baht.

So yeah, Thailand is expensive for a tourist.

Here in Vietnam, that 45 baht for a 7-11 San Miguel is 30 baht in a bar.

My precious GBP is worth sod all these days. Felt a 40% jump in price this year compared to 6 or so years ago. Perhaps an exaggeration but it hurt my pocket. The 75c beers in PP are making up for it though
Slow down little world, you're changing too fast.
