Re: Marry Cambodian girl and move to Spain?
I know a Vietnamese woman living in Cambodia who was "divorced," but in fact, I doubt she was married. Who knows? It is what she said it was. She lived somewhere near the port, and her "husband" was a policeman. Who knows?
She had another kid before her boyfriend got together with her and they had two more kids. Her first kid was taken care of by grandma, and was raised by grandma. This made that kid feel "less than" and he got a poor education and grew up to be a troubled kid with troubled kid problems.
For most women in V Nam and Cambodia, landing a barang spouse is like acquiring the goose that lays golden eggs.

Re: Marry Cambodian girl and move to Spain?
Spending say two weeks in UK I'm adviced is just to show we'll stick to visa rules and thus make it easier to get a visa in the future.
I haven't seen divorce papers but her family seem well aware of it (and their neighbours for that matter) being quite a conservative country it caused them quite a lot of embarrasment at the time. I'll double check paper work before going forward in case theirs a problem, thanks.
I didn't mean to suggest children would be left behind indefinately, sorry. I just meant we wouldn't be taking them out of school etc. until we were settled in Spain and could arrange for them to go to school there.
I've seen application for an EU citizen to bring non-EU spouse to Spain, it seems ok. I don't know about Tourist visas or Marriage visas for Spain, that's the main reason for going to UK first as there seems to be a lot more people who have done it successfully.
As I said before if there's an easier way of going about it I'm open to ideas, thanks.

Don't fall for any embarrassment... Just play the game straight, and demand from them to do the same.LostCambo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 11:30 am Spending say two weeks in UK I'm adviced is just to show we'll stick to visa rules and thus make it easier to get a visa in the future.

It's quite possible there are no papers at all, in that case the former marriage has never been registered and if there's no official marriage, there's no need for a divorce. But even that you simply check, ask your girl to bring a recent 'certificate of celibacy' from her Sangkat. In Khmer the word is 'no liev' (ie as in meat). If there's no registered marriage she should be able to get it.
I'm not suggesting any scam is going on, quite the opposite, but according to my experience the Cambodian concept of marriage is far from ours. You're married after a wedding party has taken place, whether you arranged the documents or not, and if you break up you're divorced, whether you have documents or not. But in case you want to marry her documents will be required. So better run some checks and have her come up with some docs.

Brexit ever crossed your mind? Might interfere with your plans.LostCambo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 11:30 am Spending say two weeks in UK I'm adviced is just to show we'll stick to visa rules and thus make it easier to get a visa in the future.

Why? Have the poorer khmers from the province suddenly come into untold wealth? Especially khmer girl with 2 kids where hubby has pissed off..Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 11:40 amMaybe a decade ago.Cinnamoncat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 9:26 am

Well, from what I can see, there's a very large and growing middle class here which would easily be more desirable a prospect economically than a TEFL dude on $1100pcm. But that's just my opinion.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 12:43 pmWhy? Have the poorer khmers from the province suddenly come into untold wealth? God damnit you're stupid.explorer wrote:It is common for Cambodian women to tell foreign men they are divorced. When the foreign man loves them, they actually leave their husband. To them, the marriage to the foreign man is a scam to get money. If they leave the foreign man, they often go back to their Cambodian husband. The reason many Cambodian scams are so successful, is all of the friends and relatives go along with it. Nobody tells the foreign man. You may even see her husband, and she will tell you it is her brother of a neighbor.
Do you know that she was actually divorced before she met you?
I know of European men applying for visas for their Cambodian girlfriends to enter Europe. It can cost a lot of money, and may be rejected. There is no refund.

Get married in Hong Kong. It's by far the easiest option. Schengen visitor visa pretty much can't be refused at that point, but residence will probably be trickier, depending on the country.
