Stop Bag Snatching

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Stop Bag Snatching

Post by penny1979 »

Unfortunately I was also a victim of bag snatching here in Cambodia. It's happened to almost everyone I know here. Law enforcement does nothing but make you fill out a report then put it in their desk never to be seen again. The only way to help is raise money so at least they can buy their valuables back.

In the long run I would like to set up an emergency fund here for people who are robbed and need to have their items replaced. Insurance doesn't usually cover when things are stolen from a vehicle.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Initially $1,500 and people would need to have proof of purchase and a police report to receive funds. I would like to start a large fund for expats since police never retrieve items and I know the damage it causes to loose valuables (specifically electronics here).

Bag snatching happens every where in the world and its very difficult to stop.
There are people who cannot imagine that there are other ways of life than their own life.

Yes I know so at the very least I want to start a fund where we can donate money to the victims so they don't feel helpless like I did.

I didn't have $1,500 on me. If you read the GoFundMe link your questions will be answered. Also GoFundMe works by people donating as little or as much as they want.

How about starting an education campaign for naive foreigners? Many come here straight from middle class backgrounds with great academic credentials but absolutely zero street smarts. I've never been mugged here or anywhere else. A pikey tried to put a stinky blanket over my head and drag me down an alley when I was about 7, and some inner city gutter snipe tried to steal my watch when I was about 10 but neither were successful. Teach these youngsters how to put valuable items like passports, cash and cards in their pockets for starters.
Wise up, you could avoid so much stress just by buying a wallet or moneybelt.

Locals are starving and being evicted from their land in Cambodia and you want me to donate $20 towards buying an expat a new phone?

I know what is happening with the Chinese buying land and evicting locals. But I don't have money to fight the Chinese they own everything. At least we can help some expats and locals too who are victims of theft.
