Whats good about Phnom Penh?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Maybe not cheaper than Kampot yet, but I do note asking rent prices for houses in Kampot have gone up around 30-50% in the last 18 months.
I've been told by a couple of guys lately that SR has better places at cheaper rent now. Food is definitely better in both PP and SR. When I moved here to Kampot, I had heard it touted as a "foodies paradise" what a bloody joke! I don't mind paying a bit more for decent food, but really "foodies paradise" is such an exaggeration it's ridiculous!
Interesting. It looks like foodie paradise going by the adverts on FB. Maybe the reality is different.
I would say Kpt in its present state is a good option for retirees, but that may change if the Chinese invade. The Chinese invasion in SHV is particularly bad as the low end Casino business and online scamming has attracted the dregs of Chinese society.
It may turn out different in Kpt, where any major influx of Chinese will be more centered around industrial and non gaming tourism development, if the current casino exclusion zone remains.
PP on the other hand is big enough to absorb various ethnic groups without them causing such a major impact, and most would be there for legitimate work so a different class of expat compared to SHV.
The quieter and cleaner locations around PP like Chroy Changvar do sound like comparatively good options now, at least for retirees/those that dont need to commute for work.

I miss the "other place"
well if u live in Kep, whats good about Kampot is the market, the Khmer restaurants on the river and a few bakeries.
other than that...
i could easily live 5 kms out of town on the river and go in every few days
Downside is its way overrun with Barangs. ( pizza joints outnumber the coffee cafes) :plus1:
