Re: Whats good about PP?
Totally agree. Kampot is chilled. Looking forward to see it after the Chinooks have finished with it.Hotdigr wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 7:45 pmI've been told by a couple of guys lately that SR has better places at cheaper rent now. Food is definitely better in both PP and SR. When I moved here to Kampot, I had heard it touted as a "foodies paradise" what a bloody joke! I don't mind paying a bit more for decent food, but really "foodies paradise" is such an exaggeration it's ridiculous!offroadscholar wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 6:57 amMaybe not cheaper than Kampot yet, but I do note asking rent prices for houses in Kampot have gone up around 30-50% in the last 18 months.
Who knows what it will be like.

Re: Whats good about Phnom Penh?
GF's sister brought 400 sqm of land with a house on it outside Kampot last month that i wouldn't pay $200 to live in yet found some barang to pay $350!! Prices are way out of hand and the food that i sampled last july/august was overpriced and not that great
Thank god my gf can cook...

What's so good about Kpot Richard anyway. OK it's chilled. But the expat scene is not that great.
I miss the "other place"

What's good about Phnom Penh is that nobody likes it anymore.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Nobody ever seemed to like it much, now they like it even less. They don't have to like it anyway. Not everyone cares as tourism is not the main focus for the city.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

That's true. It's just a city being a city in guess.
I liked it.

Re: Whats good about Phnom Penh?
^I think that's why I prefer Pp over S.R despite the difficulties of walking around with the blocked up footpaths etc and the traffic. Much as I like the temples, you can't go there all the time (with a limited budget at least). The domination of the tourist industry in S.R, in my opinion, is what gives it a bad vibe. For example, I'm always polite in my refusal of tuk-tuk services- can't blame a guy for trying to make a living- but I often encounter a "snarkyness" there that i find much less common in Pp.
