That the only reason for their presence?frank lee bent wrote: ↑Fri Oct 26, 2018 2:27 am
i agree that the label of invasion is crazy, there is no resistance to the presence of the PRC, they are here as investors, by invitation.
Geo-political influence maybe? Even military influence down the track? Strategically drive a wedge between Vietnam and Thailand?

as a visitor, it is not my place to express an opinion on these matters.
one can deduce a lot from history.

Completely different. The Chinese government did not empty it’s prisons and send masses of convicts to work on a railroad to be primarily owned by the Imperial government.phuketrichard wrote:US did it thou to build the RR in the 1860's
On the contrary. The Chinese freely came to the US. The US government responded by passing laws preventing wives and families from China to move in.
Re: HE: Claim that China is ‘invading’ Kingdom is crazy
The focus should be more on the loans given to countries by China and the secrecy China imposes on these loans.
An excellent example is Pakistan's current situation.
Heavily indebted to China they are now seeking IMF help to service this debt. And since the IMF is mostly funded by the US Pompeo is blocking any IMF loan as it will be used to repay china.. basically US tax dollars going straight to China. Whats funny is that the details of all loans from china to Pakistan are shrouded in secrecy. even the state bank of Pakistan is not privy to this information. Of course china is pushing the IMF to loan money to Pakistan as they want their loan to be repaid. Imran Khan has even gone to Saudi begging for a hand out to service their chinese loans.

Re: HE: Claim that China is ‘invading’ Kingdom is crazy
A few natural follow up questions to HE's statements:
So all the Chinese seen driving luxury vehicles (many with RCAF plates) are skilled workers brought in to build condos, etc.. Yup, sounds plausible.
And even better, no skilled labor in Cambodia? So why not, what has the Ministry of Education been up to for the last few decades? What programs have you rolled out over the last decades to address this issue?
Journalists? Like shooting fish in a barrel here....

Locally based journalists? What incentive to they have to ask hard-hitting questions or conduct investigative pieces.
There's no real freedom of the press here and anything critical published outside the Kingdom will just be considered white-noise from ignorant foreigners who don't understand "Khmer culture".

I know, just on my beef about journalism in general being dead. In any event, I think HE has been drinking his own coolaid to actually believe his people believe him any more.Brody wrote: ↑Fri Oct 26, 2018 10:28 amLocally based journalists? Latest election results say otherwise. Clean sweep for his party. He only need look at the PRC Premier as a role model of how things are done.Felgerkarb wrote:I know, just on my beef about journalism in general being dead. The real show will happen in the KOW after he dies.

Its not a home invasion if you invited the guests. Even if they behave badly and smash up the place once they arrive.

Unless you said "bring a couple of mates" and the entire club, and the one next to it, turn up.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 26, 2018 7:02 pm Its not a home invasion if you invited the guests. Even if they behave badly and smash up the place once they arrive.
