Sihanoukville Residents Complain about Water Services
October 15, 2018
Officials inspect water services
Sihanoukville: Officials on Friday inspected clogged water treatment facilities in Preah Sihanouk province following complaints that Sihanoukville’s growing rubbish problem is affecting water services.
Land Management Minister Chea Sophara, chairman of the National Committee for the Management and Development of Coastal Zones, was accompanied by Tourism Minister Thong Khon and Environment Minister Say Samal during the inspection.
On Facebook, the Land Management Ministry said all three officials decided to move forward with the refurbishing of water treatment facilities and a plan to boost rubbish collection in the city.
Mr Sophara said on Friday two vehicles will be provided to the provincial administration in order to clean Preah Sihanouk’s coastal areas to dispose plant matter along the beaches of O’chheuteal, O’tres and Koh Rong.
On Saturday, Public Works Minister Sun Chanthol, along with experts from Beijing Urban Construction Group, inspected a water treatment facility in Preah Sihanouk province. Their aim was to prepare the facility to be utilised again.
“Experts and officials of the Chinese company have to work together to remove [dirt] from the water treatment facility to increase the capacity of how much this facility can process from Sunday onward,” Mr Chanthol said.

Water shortage hits Preah Sihanouk
23 October 2018
Though rain has been falling in almost every corner of the country, including in Preah Sihanouk province, the latter is experiencing a shortage of clean water supply, said local residents and government officials.
Leang Veasna, a shop owner who lives in Sihanoukville’s Buon commune, told The Post that for the past month, his expenses on clean water for daily consumption had risen, following the shortage of water from the province’s water supply authority.
“I need to spend at least $50 a week to purchase water from private sellers because the government has a problem supplying water to the people. Sometimes there is no water at all ... Not even a drop,” he said.
Most of Praek Tob, Kbal Chhay waterfall’s second largest water reservoir, has already been filled.
Meanwhile, [Preah Sihanouk provincial water authority head] Ratanak urged the people, government officials and vendors to be patient until late December. He said clean water will be fully supplied as Anco is accelerating the development of the water pipe network and its water reservoirs.
Anco’s Preah Sihanouk provincial director-general Nam Kie Teng told The Post that the company has nearly completed the installation of two main pipelines and that development of its water reservoirs will be completed in November.
Tests may begin between early to late December and clean water supply in Preah Sihanouk province will have no more problems despite the population and factory growth, Kie Teng said.

Re: Sihanoukville Residents Complain about Water Services
My main memories of spending 2 weeks on Victory hill and 4 weeks at Otres Village are the 'regular', multiple water outages... and the mud with simultaneous clouds of choking dust from all the giant Chinese trucks rolling through.
You could be next.

Trucks deployed amid clean water shortage in Preah Sihanouk province
29n October 2018
The Preah Sihanouk provincial administration yesterday said it has deployed three trucks to transport water to thousands of waterless families in multiple communes in Sihanoukville.
Nongdy Nara, provincial head of public relations, said about 5,000 families in Lek Pi, Lek Bey and Lek Buon communes are facing shortages of clean water due to population growth and construction.
He added that the provincial administration is constructing a new water supply system to provide up to 60,000 cubic metres of clean water for the residents.
“In some areas, people have weak access to water – some can use water, while others cannot – especially people living near construction sites,” he said. “However, the province is solving this problem. We are expanding the new water network and it will be completed by next month.”
Mr Nara added that in the meantime, three water trucks will distribute clean water for those who need it.
He noted that the province needs between 40,000 to 60,000 cubic metres of water per day, while it is only able to supply 30,000 cubic metres of water currently.

Re: Sihanoukville Residents Complain about Water Services
since you have to buy your drinking water....the water shut offs were rectified with a 20l bottle in the bathroom as back up...
the power outages were constant...
the most disgusting thing about sihanoukville, for me, was the garbage........piling up on the corner ....
then some small bins arrived....that would be full in hours and under a mountain by the next day.....
toss in the wind changing direction and the garbage dump burning piles of plastic and i was not at all sad to have the owner break my lease with 6 months to go....the stench, the traffic, the chaos had worn thin.
the chinese can have it...

Sihanoukville water plant 90 percent complete
November 5, 2018

The construction of a water plant in Preah Sihanouk province’s Kbal Chhay area is 90 percent complete and is on track for completion by early next year, a provincial official said yesterday.
The facility will house a water purifier facility and store up to 60,000 cubic metres of water for residents living in Sihanoukville, where residents have been facing a clean water shortage.
Provincial Hall spokesman Or Saroeun yesterday said officials inspected the construction over the weekend.
Mr Saroeun said Anco company has completed about 90 percent of what is required for the facility to operate, noting that only rain could hinder progress.
“Based on the commitment of Anco company, construction can be complete by December,” he said. “One or two weeks later, we will be able to distribute water to people. Overall, by early next year at most people will be able to have clean water.”
He said the plant will store up to 60,000 cubic metres and noted that Sihanoukville needs about 40,000 cubic metres per day.
In addition, Anco company is currently constructing another reservoir that will serve as a backup in case of shortages.

Re: Sihanoukville Residents Complain about Water Services
Based on current construction and growth figures, they better get that other plant done fast, as they will run out again...next year. And the wheel...turns....
