Thailand to deport all foreigners overstaying visas within 30 days.

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Thailand to deport all foreigners overstaying visas within 30 days.

Post by Kung-fu Hillbilly »

"The Thai government is set to arrest and deport all foreigners overstaying their visas following complaints of illegal activities, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said on Tuesday.

“Some foreigners came in as tourists and never left, and we didn’t check. We need to launch a crackdown.

“There are currently over 40,000 foreigners in Thailand whose visas have already expired.”

According to immigration police, the Thai authorities aim to arrest and deport all of them within a month."

This is getting to be a very interesting topic.

The Big Joke has landed and is marking himself felt?

Unfortunately I know quiet a few people in Phuket who have been more than a little concerned over the past year or two. More than a few of these are in the yachting community and just drifted onto the shores of Phuket at Ao Chalong over the years. In the past, they found it easy to just disappear when checks were being carried out but are a little more worried now.

The governments in countries such as Australia and the UK have an smartphone ap that tracks immigrants.

The Thais should get something like this for farangs, so that they know where they are when their visas expire.

I was thinking more along the lines of electronic leg tagging.

There could be a market for designer taggs.

That's old technology, China is already into facial recognition.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

It's an impossible task, especially after making it public. How on earth are they going to track down 40 000 people in 30 days? Most would no longer be at their initial nominated address, and if they were, they certainly aren't now. You might find random passport checks on the street become more obvious or frequent for a while though perhaps.

This. A sincere attempt to arrest people is never preceded by an announcement that you're going to do it. This sounds more like a PR stunt.

The Immigration Bureau announced on its website yesterday that there were 1.6 million foreigners living in Thailand between January and August.
Canadians were the biggest group – 9,872 migrants – followed by 9,583 Dutch people, 9,566 Bangladeshis and 9,483 Italians.
I find it hard to believe that there are more farangs from Canada, The Netherlands, and Italy living in Thailand than any other farang country.
