Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel J. Kritenbrink will travel to Cambodia and Laos May 1-7. The visits will highlight U.S. commitment to two of the youngest and most dynamic societies in the region, reinforcing ASEAN centrality, underscoring the United States’ commitment to the Mekong-U.S. Partnership to address transboundary challenges, and promoting a secure, open and prosperous Mekong sub-region.

In Cambodia, Assistant Secretary Kritenbrink will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and other senior officials, and youth and civil society leaders to discuss our bilateral relationship and U.S. support for Cambodia’s year as ASEAN Chair.

Cambodian PM Arrives in Washington D.C. with Warm Welcome

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Chair of ASEAN 2022, arrived in Washington D.C., the U.S. on May 10 evening (time in Washington D.C.) to attend and co-chair the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit on May 12-13, at the invitation of U.S. President, the Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

The Premier was warmly welcomed upon his arrival at Willard Intercontinental hotel by many Cambodian Americans and Cambodian Canadians.

A Cambodian American said he is very honoured to personally meet Prime Minister Samdech Techo HE, stressing that the Premier’s presence in the U.S. is the nation’s pride and will further enhance the relationship between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit will be held in Washington D.C. to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations.

On the margin of the Summit, Samdech Techo Prime Minister and other ASEAN Leaders will be received and hosted bipartisan lunch by H.E. Ms. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States, at the Capitol Hill and dinner by Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States of America, at the White House.

ASEAN Leaders will also be meeting with American business leaders to discuss economic cooperation. ASEAN Leaders will be meeting with H.E. Vice President Ms. Kamala Harris and U.S. Cabinet Secretaries on issues related to climate action, clean energy and sustainable infrastructure.

Exchange of views on regional and international issues and on how to bring ASEAN-U.S. Partnership to a new height will be the highlight of this Special Summit.

The Cambodian Premier will have a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and other leaders of ASEAN Member States.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister will also meet with Cambodian compatriots who live in the United States of America.

Samdech Techo HE is accompanied by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and other senior government officials.

Samdech Techo HE will return home on May 15.

Cambodia-U.S. Relationship Reaches Highest Level Ever in Past 72 Years

The relations between Cambodia and the U.S. have reached the highest level ever during the past 72 years, noted Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, while receiving former U.S. Senator Donald M. Benton in Washington D.C. in the morning of May 11 (Washington D.C. time), on the sidelines of the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit.

Thanks to this good tie, the volume of bilateral trade and investment is on a remarkable rise, stressed the Premier quoted by H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister.

Cambodia really wants to befriend with all countries, including the U.S., reaffirmed Samdech Techo HE, adding that the Kingdom cannot choose between the U.S. and China as the country adopts a neutral policy as stated in its constitution.

Cambodian PM Heading for World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2022 in Switzerland
AKP Phnom Penh, May 21, 2022 --

A high-level Cambodian delegation led by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE is heading for Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2022, at the invitation of Prof. Klaus Schwab, WEF Founder and Executive Chairman.

The delegation was seen off upon their departure at Phnom Penh International Airport around midnight of May 20 by Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and many other senior government officials.

The WEF Annual Meeting 2022 will be held in Davos-Klosters on May 22-26, 2022 under the theme “Preparing for the Post-COVID era”, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Cambodia, Australia to Strengthen Defence Cooperation

The Kingdom of Cambodia and Australia have lauded their good bilateral cooperation and pledged to further strengthen it, especially in the field of national defence.

The commitment was underlined during a meeting between Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, and his Australian counterpart, H.E. Richard Marles, on the sidelines of the 19th Asia Security Summit (IISS Shangri-La Dialogue 2022) held in Singapore on June 11-12.

Samdech Tea Banh took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Australia for its assistance in developing the White Paper on National Defence and enhancing the skills of the Cambodian armed forces.

Russian Foreign Minister to Attend 12th EAS, 29th ARF, and ASEAN-Russian Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Cambodia

Russian Foreign Minister H.E. Sergei Lavrov is going to attend the 12th East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the 29th ASEAN Regional Forum to be hosted by Cambodia early next month in Phnom Penh.

“As the Russian side has received the invitation to ASEAN related ministerial level meetings, I would like to inform that Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov will attend these events,” said Mr. Rafael Iangareev, Press Attaché of the Russian Embassy in Cambodia.

Recently, Mr. Rafael Iangareev said Russia has attached great importance to the development of relations with ASEAN within the Russia-ASEAN Dialogue Partnership, as well as advancement of interactions in other ASEAN-centric frameworks.

Russia is committed to further strengthen the leading role of the ASEAN in the regional affairs, to increase the efficiency of practical cooperation within ASEAN-centric platforms as well as the Russia-ASEAN dialogue format, especially aiming at implementing the decisions adopted at the Anniversary Dialogue Partnership Summit in October 2021, as well as fulfillment of the objectives of the Russian-ASEAN Year of Scientific and Technical Cooperation and other areas of our strategic partnership, he underlined.

Cambodia is going to host the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings, including ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences, ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Minister’s Meeting, East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN Regional Forum and so on from July 31 to Aug. 6, 2022.

Belarus, Cambodia discuss cooperation plans
MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Vietnam Vladimir Borovikov has met with Ambassador of Cambodia to Vietnam Chay Navuth, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Hanoi.

Vladimir Borovikov informed his Cambodian counterpart about his appointment as Belarus' Non-Resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The diplomats discussed the schedule of upcoming bilateral events, as well as the legal framework. Vladimir Borovikov noted that the two diplomatic missions stay in close contact. He believes that these contacts could be used to boost trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Cambodia.
