Cambodia to Join a High-Level Meeting in Serbia Next Week
AKP Phnom Penh, October 08, 2021 --

Cambodia will participate in the “Commemorative High-Level Meeting on the occasion of marking the 60th anniversary of the first Conference of the Non-Aligned Countries” to be held in Belgrade, the Republic of Serbia on Oct. 11-12​.

H.E. Ouch Borith, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Standing Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), will represent Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to physically attend and deliver a statement at the forthcoming international event.

According to an MFAIC’s press release, co-hosted by H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and current Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia, the Meeting will provide opportunity for the participants to reflect their commitment to the five main principles of the NAM, namely: 1) mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, 2) mutual non-aggression, 3) mutual non-interference in domestic affairs, 4) equality and mutual benefit and 5) peaceful co-existence which have always been contributing to the promotion of world peace and cooperation. Regional and international issues of common interest and concern are also expected to be raised.

H.E. Ouch Borith’s remarks will focus on the importance of supporting the five principles of the NAM and commitment to the United Nations Charter, promotion of sustainable development and human right, the crucial roles of the NAM and the rule of law for the small states, vaccine multilateralism, and COVID-19 pandemic and its recovery response efforts, stressed the press release.

President concludes State visit to Cambodia

Hanoi (VNA) – President Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived in Hanoi on December 22, concluding his two-day State visit to Cambodia at the invitation of Cambodian King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni.

The success of his visit once again affirms the Vietnamese Party, State and people’s determination to fosfter fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability between the two countries, contributing to consolidating political trust and further deepening bilateral all-around ties.

During the visit, President Phuc met King Norodom Sihamoni, paid a courtesy call to Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, and held bilateral meetings with Cambodian leaders.

Both sides agreed to enhance the exchange of all-level delegations, encourage people-to-people exchange activities toward mutual recognition of vaccine passports and vaccination certificates.

They affirmed commitment to respecting and fully implementing treaties on planning and demarcation of border markers and relevant border agreements.

Vietnam will support Cambodia at the highest level during Cambodia’s assumption of ASEAN Chair 2022, thus contributing to ASEAN’s unity and strengthening its central role and self-resilience capacity.

The two sides highlighted ASEAN’s common stance on the importance of maintaining peace, security, stability, safety and freedom of navigation in and overflight above the East Sea. They vowed to promote dialogues and trust building, exercise self-restraint and abide by international law, settle disputes by peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

They will refrain from threat or use of force, ensure the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), work towards reaching an effective and substantive Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UNCLOS.

Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Cambodian PM Samdech Techo HE witnessed the signing of seven cooperation agreements in various areas. The two countries’ businesses also struck a number of deals and agreements.

Australia’s Ambassador to ASEAN Visits Cambodia

H.E. Will Nankervis, Australia’s Ambassador to ASEAN, has arrived in Phnom Penh for a working visit.

According to the Australian Embassy in Cambodia, over the next couple of days, H.E. Will Nankervis will meet with Cambodian officials to discuss Australia’s support for Cambodia during its ASEAN Chair Year and the work to implement the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

“Australia supports a strong and resilient ASEAN at the heart of the Indo-Pacific. We look forward to working with Cambodia during its ASEAN Chair Year,” the embassy underlined.

Fifteen scholars in international relations and ASEAN contributed to the 162-page work
PHNOM PENH--The Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP) and the Asia Foundation on Jan. 12 launched a book on Cambodia assuming the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, providing an overview of the various issues the country will be dealing with.

The work entitled “Cambodia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN: Challenging Perceptions, Concretizing Consolidations” was launched in Phnom Penh during a conference attended by Kung Phoak, secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps and the country’s academia.

Good luck. but personally my tea leaves read that asean will not continue to be bogged down by it's existing inbuilt concretising factors for too much longer.

Foreign Minister of Timor-Leste to Visit Cambodia Tomorrow

Dr. Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, will pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia on Jan. 26-29, 2022, at the invitation of H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the visit, H.E. Dr. Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno will pay a courtesy call on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and hold a bilateral meeting with H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, during which various aspects of bilateral relations and cooperation as well as regional and international issues of common interest and concerns will be discussed, including Timor-Leste’s application for the ASEAN Membership.

Cambodia’s export to Canada under free tariffs and free quotas reaches $954.82 million
Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, met with Dr. Sarah Taylor, Ambassador of Canada to the Kingdom of Cambodia to enhance cooperation between the two countries and promote some priority areas.

According to the Minister of Commerce, bilateral trade between the two countries has increased significantly, with Cambodia exporting to Canada under the free tariff and free quota program worth up to $954.82 million in 2021.

At the same time, the Commerce Minister requested the Ambassador to explore the possibility of studying the possibility of establishing a bilateral free trade agreement between Cambodia and Canada and to request a business meeting between Canadian investors who have invested in Thailand and Laos to Take Advantage of Cambodia-China Bilateral Free Trade Agreement (CCFTA), Cambodia-Korea Bilateral Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) Recently.

In addition, Cambodia has reformed and enacted several new investment laws to facilitate a better business environment in Cambodia.

He added that Cambodia has always supported Canadian investors who are investing in Cambodia. In fact, ABA Bank is the third leading bank in Cambodia and Manulife Insurance Company has been licensed and shared its expertise to Cambodia.

Cambodia Encourages Direct Flight with France
AKP Phnom Penh, February 24, 2022 --

Cambodia has encouraged direct flight connection with France to facilitate mutual tourism movement in a near future.

The intention was underlined by H.E. Thong Khon, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, in a meeting with H.E. Jacques Pellet, newly-appointed Ambassador to France to the Kingdom early this week.

H.E. Thong Khon also thanked France for supporting two tourism vocational training schools in Phnom Penh capital and Preah Sihanouk province which is very helpful for Cambodia's tourism recovery.

France, he added, has committed US$600,000 to help Cambodia organising the SEA Games 2023.

H.E. Jacques Pellet spoke highly of Cambodia's effort in fighting against COVID-19, including the vaccination campaign and looked forward to foster Cambodia-France bilateral cooperation, including in tourism.

Australia to Cooperate with Cambodia on Agro-Industry Sector for Export

AKP Phnom Penh, April 01, 2022 -- Australia will cooperate with Cambodia on the agro-industry for export under the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA).

The planned partnership was raised by Australian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Pablo Kang while paying a courtesy visit to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this afternoon, according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier.

Australia will also provide 33 freezers to store Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to Cambodia, said the ambassador, adding that Australia will reopen in the next two weeks for all passengers with no COVID-19 test requirement.

H.E. Pablo Kang handed over a letter from Australian Prime Minister H.E. Scott Morrison to Samdech Techo HE on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of both countries’ diplomatic ties.
In reply, Samdech Techo Prime Minister thanked the Australian Prime Minister for the letter, and welcomed Australia for the upcoming reopening of the country.

Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: Mr. Pan Sosak, Minister of Commerce, led a delegation from the Ministry of Commerce to meet with Mr. Phil Twyford, New Zealand Minister of Trade and Export Growth, and associates.

The Minister warmly welcomed the New Zealand Minister and his colleagues and thanked the Government of New Zealand for their full support for Cambodia on the occasion of Cambodia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022.

He said that during the meeting, the two sides exchanged views and discussed the progress of economic and trade cooperation as part of the negotiations on the improvement of the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA Upgrade), one of Cambodia's economic priorities for 2022.

In the end, Cambodia and New Zealand pledged to continue to boost bilateral trade and boost investment growth between the two countries in order to make efforts to recover economically in all areas after the crisis of Covid-19.
