$100 to go to another high school
$100 to go to another high school
A Cambodian girl studies year 11 at a government high school.
She has the opportunity to study year 12 at a private high school in another province.
She requires documents to say she finished year 11 at the government high school.
These are provided for $100.
I have been told this is common practice for people moving to a high school in another province.
This is not charged when moving to another high school near by.

It’s true enough.
I think the docs are received from Ministry of Education. You need to get a letter from current school then take it to MoE.
I’m not sure about cost, but I remember thinking it was more expensive than I expected.

It's true enough, but cheaper if you know who has to be dealt with (I.e. paid) and you do it yourself. It will good practice for explorer to overwhelm bureaucratic staff with his mastery of Khmer.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

It’s one of those things which weirdly gets more expensive depending on year of study. Ranging from free/dead cheap for early years to daylight robbery for senior years.

Maybe my case isn't representative, but the total cost for both of my kids was 30,000 Riel's for junior and senior h.s. years. We switched from home province to Kampong Cham.

When we moved our niece from Kg. Thom to PP I think the fee was $60 bucks. That was three years ago.

True. We paid $25 (to some type of security guard or fixed outside Ministry) to transfer from Kompong Thom to Siem Reap city last year as Ministry was closed. Was a bit worried but was legit and he sent the the document by bus two days later. No additional cost in Siem Reap.

I had $50 in my head but couldn’t remember for sure. This was about 3 years ago too.Felgerkarb wrote:When we moved our niece from Kg. Thom to PP I think the fee was $60 bucks. That was three years ago.
We were transferring from PP to province.
Quite possibly our fee included the ‘NGO tax’
The $100 is believable to me, especially if they know that there is a foreigner involved. But I’m sure it is negotiable.
