RIP

(PHNOM PENH) - Health Minister Mam Bun Heng told Fresh News earlier this morning that September 9, 2018, the founder of Kantha Bopha Children's Hospital, Dr Beat Richner, died and then fell ill. It's been a long time. He died at about 2:45 am on September 9, 2018 at the age of 71 in Switzerland.

Bummer to fall ill after he died.

I met Dr. Beat Richner, aka "Beatocello," in the early 90's. He immediately began his fundraising pitch with me! At the time, Ken and I really had just arrived, and hardly had two nickels to rub together, as it were.

He achieved something huge in Cambodia, saving thousands of lives, educating so, so many. He did so much for so many.

In 1997, he once more had to assert his disinterest in politics, refusing to open the hospital to adults who had been injured in the horrific grenade attack on the park. This was an issue that sparked huge controversy.

The large picture is that he was a philanthropist practically unrivaled in the Kingdom of Wonder, and I am so glad for what he did for so many.

Rest in peace, Dr. Beat Richner.
