Another low for Thailand

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Another low for Thailand

This one makes no sense
Women's rights group slam Thai ban on female police cadets
A prominent police academy in Thailand has banned women from enrolling - raising alarm for female rape victims as Thai law dictates women must be interviewed by female officers.
Human rights activists have voiced concerns that having a male-only police could endanger women because under Thai law female rape victims have to be interviewed by female officers.

Nevertheless, even with women police officers, around 90 per cent of rapes go unreported, according to the UN Women organisation.

Take that report with a pinch of salt. It was in the Independent, a paper not known for publishing all of the details.

I am sure there is a lot more to this than they published. It would be intersting to see a Thai news report on it.

Authorities said women will no longer be allowed to enroll in the Royal Police Cadet Academy for the 2019 academic year, prompting concerns among activists that sexual assault cases may gain less attention with the decrease in female officers.

“It’s policy,” Capt. Worawut Sripakhon of the cadet academy said Monday morning by phone when asked for an explanation. “We’re not allowed to give any more information than that.”
