History shows us that power vacuums are dangerous, Michael Jackson's shows were wicked-bad & Keziz shows us it backwards

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

History shows us that power vacuums are dangerous, Michael Jackson's shows were wicked-bad & Keziz shows us how to think backwards

Sid didn't get it all right, far from it, but at least he sang 'God Save The Queen'. Perhaps, he too, knew that there's nothing more dangerous than a power vacuum, or even an ideological vacuum. This is especially true in turbulent times such as these. Let's face it the 'winged model' is defunct. Far-left and far-right are practically the same (with nothing in the middle) and the new overwhelming presence of cyberpunk tech is suspiciously waiting to assist and support either, or both as a multitude of cyber-identities appear to represent something that may or may not really exist outside of it's core media and social media presence.

Examples of power vacuums being filled by extremism: when the monarchy fell in the French Revolution it was replaced by an emperor (Napoleon). Twenty years later the Russia's monarchy fell and they ended up with Stalin. The trend spread, and it's debatable where it ended, but some might argue that genocide museums (such as the one a few hundred meters from my doorstep) might be an accurate reference point on the map. Drawing a comparison between a constitutional monarchy and Stalism is backwards, superficial and misleading. Millions were killed by Stalin and millions more lost years in gulags and remote brainwashing-torture camps. This was only possible because of a power vacuum, anti-intellectualism, and a lack of public information.

Rapid unquestioned change breeds extremism. Gentle democratic socialism does however seem to offer hope against the encroaching high-tech, cyberpunk globalisation.

"Globalization creates economic policies where the transnationals lord over us, and the result is misery and unemployment."
- Evo Morales

'Moralism' seems to emphasise decolonisation, social equality and economic growth. Interested?

Boy, someone's been at the bottle early.

Your right

You're right, no connection between those two. There's no connection between. Jackson and Stalin either (also mentioned). I'm drinking tea. Go put the kettle on and treat yourself.

This is the article that I was referring to, but I had to read it though a few times to make sense of it. So you may need a little more patience (or a little bit more tea) than TOG:

Loving this....

What does a power vacuum have to do with young Prince Harry and his American bride?

For most of us non intellectuals for whom the result of tomorrows game between HKR and Halifax is a tad more important than the storming the Winter Palace nearly 100 years ago, life is too short to be concerned over intellectual debates and discussions.

Let's leave pontification to those who can't teach. (work that one out)

Sid Vicious didn't do the vocals on God Save the Queen.

It was Johnny Rotten.

In fact, Sid didn't actually join the Sex Pistols until after God Save the Queen was recorded.

I think there was more than a 20 year gap between the French Revolution and the end of the Romanov dynasty.

Deck the halls with bows of holly...

Post by britscienceteacher »

Hello again,

How's the suicide club going? Yes, time does tend to pass between events. Can you explain the relevance of your point (and correct my typos while you are at it please I have at least one).

Excuse the delay, the 'Billy Goat Gruff Trail' was long and winding...

Excuse me for the delay in getting back to you TOG...

Are you making a joke about enjoying a discussion that 'life is too short for' by taking part in it? I liked your question about karma - the thread which led me to read Stroppy Chop's explanation of karma points; a de-politicised, subcultural version of Watership Down:

general-chatter/fiction-mythical-carrot ... 13857.html

And no Rozzieoz, I don't think he has too much time on his hands (although you did score cheap karma points for the comment), I think it was well-worth the time to write and read it, and a good allegory. I would have preferred to listen to it though (because of the style), seems like that would have been the best delivery - maybe podcast?
