Having got my head around the Karma game, I note that there is a heading called Karma Power.

What is this? Is it an energy drink?

Everyone seems to be on Karma Power 1, even the older blow hards, so I am not sure what it is.

Mind you, it is early in the morning and that is never the best time to think too hard.

That's Karma. not Karma Power. KP is a separate item.

It's how many points your vote weighs. When you vote karma increases or decreases by 1 as that's your karma power. If you had 5 karma power your vote would be worth 5 points and you could take 5 points away from someone's total with a -5 vote. Karma power is capped at 1 but maybe GM will be drunk on Saudi oil sometime and change it.

I believe that's correct. I think we locked that, and it's 'possible' to set it so that it goes up and down, based on time or karma given, which gives you a limit of the amount of karma you can give or take from others, but we also had to disable restrictions in order for our beloved Karma Queen to be able to give karma to members for all new topics.

At one stage, you used to be able to give or take different amounts of karma each time, but that made it so that you had to choose how many karma points to give/take, making the process a bit longer, and we want to streamline things for members as much as humanly possible, so did away with that option. We could also turn it into a simple 'like' button, but we do believe there are times it's appropriate to tell away karma, and to also leave a note as to WHY you did it.

Interesting, I never knew about karma power.

Regarding karma, I find it instructive to consider the ratio of posts to karma. That gives a better illustration of poster quality.

For example if I took the 2 posters quoted above, TOG would have a better ratio than jb...

Who would have thought that Karma was so complicated?
