Canadian Man Commits "Suicide" by Hanging (suspicious)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

If I decide to depart this mortal coil I don't think I'm going to pick slow strangulation. All I'll have to do is pick up some alleged cocaine from a tuk tuk driver. Works every time.

Wow, in that case it's probably wise to flush your dead customers down the Mekong.
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

One man and one woman 2 - 3 weeks ago found floating on the Tonle Sap.

Those photographers are relentless. I'm sure they try to find the goriest angle. But both Cambodian. Maybe they sink them with weights?

I also immediately wondered if he'd died elsewhere and been moved. Any reasonable coroner (I know, I know) will be able to determine if he was hanged elsewhere, unless it was in remarkably similar circumstance - the damage is quite specific. Mind you, a local coroner will probably rule heart attack or slipped from a balcony.

The passport says he was born in New Westminster, which is in British Columbia, on the Pacific coast. The family name is clearly Japanese and there were a lot of Japanese in BC since before WW2.

This is actually a very common way to commit suicide. You take tranquilizers and you set the rope up in such a way that when you lose consciousness you suffocate.

The other similar method involves a plastic bag. It's supposed to be the easiest way to go. I had a friend who checked out the same way. We found out after the fact that he had done extensive research on the topic.

The only reason we don't get to see it back home is because the newspapers don't print the pictures.

Apparently an oxygen mask hooked to a slow flow of NO2 is the departure of choice at the moment, combination of non-air environment and happy times. Truly sad that anyone gets to this point, but so common. I've probably ranted before about our home town in Oz being the earner's capital ($100,000 minimum income on the mines) but an ex-proportionately high number of early check-outs. Loss of hope for the future, mostly.
