Looking for wood - not the after dark thread

Post by Jobo »

Hello,

I will be visiting Cambodia for a couple weeks this fall. One of my hobbies is woodworking, which brings this question.

Does anyone know of a good place to purchase a small quantity of high quality wood from a respectable business near PP or Siem Reap. It would need to be CITES certified and legally harvesting.

Hi Jobo,
Nice that you want CITES certified wood, however, I'm not sure, but I think that's certification for export. The local wood is not all certified. I did a quick search on sustainable wood in Cambodia.
Maybe they can help you here or give you directions:

The local timber industry will print you any certification you like if you're paying, and you can show them a copy of a real one.

Otherwise, no.

Depending on the size you want, I have seen some nice timber come out of old buildings that are being demolished, including a couple of clothing factories on road 2
that were built a long time ago, and the timber was probably cut from very old large trees that were readily available in those times.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
