Re: Brussels sprout seeds
I’d have thought buying them here frozen would be the way to go. How fresh could they possibly be?
Back at home, unless it was pea season, you would never buy peas anything other than frozen as they are the freshest you can get, as they are frozen at source. I’d assume that’s the same with sprouts
Re: Brussels sprout seeds
I've tried frozen brussel sprouts...not a fan.

Correct, ,,,I grew them in NZ, but only in winter. You need a warm temperature like the end of summer when you plant the seeds / seedlings, and cold temperatures when the brussels sprouts form so they are nice and tight ,, other wise they are soft and a bit bitter in taste.
I have doubts that they would grow successfully here .

From seed to harvest about 80-ish days. If the weather is too warm, they will just go to seed.
You could try planting in the first week of October hoping for a successful harvest in late December/early January.

Re: Brussels sprout seeds
I seem to recall seeing Brussels sprout seeds near the fish sellers at Orussey, but that was enough time ago to be unreliable.
Brussels sprouts need a cold snap to make the heads set, in tropical climates they'd run straight to flower. I've never seen a large cabbage here, and suspect it's for the same reason.
Super Duper occasionally carry frozen Brussels sprouts, we've had them as a treat with butter and bacon.
Final free grammar Nazi comment - they're named for the city of Brussels, hence Brussels and not Brussel sprouts.
This link is not related.

Broccoli is usually available in the local markets. But they're small like the cauliflowers.frank lee bent wrote: ↑Sat Aug 18, 2018 6:32 am cauliflowers go ok in the cool season so broccoli worth a try. i would give some shade

Broccoli, sprouts, caulis, they are all the same plant. All the broccoli I've seen here is shit, though. It's tiny and all stalk.frank lee bent wrote: ↑Sat Aug 18, 2018 6:32 am cauliflowers go ok in the cool season so broccoli worth a try. i would give some shade
