And besides. This is an English speaking mainly barang forum and even in Otres I’ve never heard anyone say “Otres Wat” (which is why people questioned it) everyone calls it Otres Pagoda.
But you’re obviously talented at reading Khmer and speaking and the like so I don’t doubt the actual meaning and written text you’ve put. Just saying.

yeah its pronounced Otreh, in Khmer theres no final S sound, in the same way khmers write Nas but say Nah (where) or Nis but say Nih (this)davegorman wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 11:36 am And besides. and its called Wat Otres/Otreh not otres wat, because of Khmer Grammar, Angkor Wat is different because it means City of Temples, not the Temple belonging to a certain place
either way, youre going down a rabbit hole here, i just said i only wanted to go to the Wat (Temple), and the other poster wasnt sure what a "Wat" was, you tried correcting me, and was wrong, Wats are Thai/Khmer/Laos temples, Pagodas are not, your wife and family probably use that term either because you are foreign or because they have some Chinese roots
But if you think im making it up, ill let the internet try to explain...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagoda
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WatA pagoda is a tiered tower with multiple eaves, built in traditions originating as stupa in historic South Asia[1][2] and further developed in East Asia or with respect to those traditions, common to Nepal, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka and other parts of Asia. Some pagodas are used as Taoist houses of worship. Most pagodas were built to have a religious function, most commonly Buddhist, and were often located in or near viharas. In some countries, the term may refer to other religious structures. In Vietnam and Cambodia, due to French translation, the English term pagoda is a more generic term referring to a place of worship, although pagoda is not an accurate word to describe a Buddhist vihara.
A wat (Khmer: វត្ត wōat; Lao: ວັດ vat; Thai: วัด, RTGS: wat, pronounced [wát]) is a type of Buddhist temple and Hindu temple in Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. The word wat is borrowed from Sanskrit vāṭa (Devanāgarī: वाट), meaning 'enclosure'
Some well-known wats include:
Cambodia
At the end of 2017, there were 4,872 wats

I never implied once you were making it up. I just said that’s what foreigners living there called it.

Do you mean "the port"? I suppose that was inevitable. It's actually surprising that one side of it lasted as long as it did.Jamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 12:25 pm yup theyve also concreted the whole of the Chicken Farm now and its lost its old Rustic feel that made it a fun place to go drink etc

Jamie definitely meant the port but for once he called it like any other barang does. Khmers would call it Phum Thmey.Khmerican wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 2:16 pmDo you mean "the port"? Well, not quite any other barang. Everyone I know has always called it "the port", and that'a going back nearly 20 years.Barang_doa_slae wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 2:23 pmJamie definitely meant the port but for once he called it like any other barang does. "The chicken farm" most usually meant the one in Koh Kong, while many other provincial towns had "a chicken farm".
