How much baby formula can I bring to Cambodia?

Post by newkidontheblock »

I’ve been asked to bring baby formula. Apparently brand not available in the KOW. Flying into Phnom Penh. Any restrictions on how many cans I can bring? Or what’s the threshold before Cambodian customs considers it commercial (vs. personal use), and decides to charge and import fee?

In real countries you need prescriptions for baby formula.

This is not a real county. Welcome to Cambodia, bring as much as you can carry.

Fill your checked luggage with sealed and unopened cans. To be fair even the most generous airlines don't allow much more than 35kg and you will be bringing personal essentials as well so i wouldn't worry as even 20kg will be a large volume and would easily fill the max size luggage.

Countries like England, Ireland and Sweden for example require a prescription for baby formula. There's the whole WHO International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes code to take into account among others, which they care about here too by the way.

Apparently in New Zealand you need to sign a form of consent in order for the maternity hospital to feed your kids powder.
The Waitemata District Health Board, which runs maternity units at its North Shore and Waitakere hospitals, is among 18 DHBs nationally to require completion of an informed consent document before a baby is fed formula.

Ireland? That's either new, or unenforced, if so.

im guessing youve never had kids then because thats utter nonsense.

baby formula is freely available in uk shops and online with no restrictions.

special baby formula, stay down type, dietary type etc, is prescribed by a gp often for babies that have had complications, but then a gp would prescribe over the counter drugs anyway.

also its not “in New Zealand” thars just a few health authorities amongs 1000s that choose to follow those rules.

also Ireland has the same laws as uk.yes there are restrictions on advertising but thats because baby formula needs to pass certain rules and they can’t just have anyone importing it and flogging it off.
