Pattaya pic of the day

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

give the guy a break, he broke his arm

Mr. John Hayward reportedly parked his Bronze Chevrolet car in the car park and left for a short moment to purchase something and then returned to his car. Khun Tosapon claims he approached Mr. Hayward and requested the 40 Baht which was not forthcoming. He further explained that Mr. Hayward attempted to drive away which enraged the parking attendant who picked up a piece of wood and struck Mr. Hayward’s car. Mr. Hayward stopped his vehicle and confronted the attendant who then struck the elderly man across his arm.

it's the principle that matters, not the amount of money.

for how long can you stand people trying to rip you off at every step just because you're a farang and they think you're stupid and submissive and they know you won't fight back for a small sum of money ?

the thai guy was certainly a crook or an illegal parking attendant, you can bet thais pay just 10 baht to park there.

Broken arm or not, he is acting like a big baby. Am I imagining it, or is that policeman smirking?

$1.30 - pay it. Similar things happen in the UK. Young thug kids, say they will look after your car for £1. What they are really saying is " if you don't give me £1, your car will be vandalised while you are away". It's a no win for the car owner. £1 is the superior option.

he should have asked FIRST if the parking was free and then park somewhere else.
never take for granted that something is free and as a barang always expect to pay more than the locals.

this is the only way to survive and will save you from 90% of the most common scams in asia.
no need to fight or to argue or to bargain, just be proactive.

and once you finally realize there's a scam at every step, well welcome to reality.
adapt or go back home.

Good advice :thumb: It's when you don't ask a price, that they inflate it, or invent one.
