Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Phnom Penh: A 29 year old Russian woman expat, YULIA IVANOVA,was victim of a bag snatching on streets 62/456, Sangkat Toul Tumpong, Phnom Penh. The two thieves who were arrested were identified as Chang Khunthea, a 22-year-old man and Bun Hai, a 15-year-old boy.

Ms Ivanova had left her apartment to go to buy something she needed at Angkor Mart on the street 155/456. When she was almost at the shop, the 2 suspects tried to snatch her bag from a motorbike. However, the Russian woman resisted, hanging on to her bag, which caused the thieves to fall off their motorbike. But then, after a bit of push and pull, the thieves got the bag and tried to escape on the bike. However, it was not their lucky day, because they then crashed into a car, which made them fall off their bike again, and this time they did not escape. Instead, the two suspects were nabbed by local police and marched down to the station.

Happy ending all round - the Russian woman got her bag back, which contained $50 and a telephone. The police confiscated another motorbike, and there are two less thieving bag snatchers on the streets of Phnom Penh.

Surprised that police are not making more of an effort to arrest the bag snatchers in order to seize more motorbikes. Yes, I know that goods confiscated by police are not shared equally, but maybe they should have a monthly police motorbike lottery, open to all, as an incentive for local police to arrest as many of those a-holes as possible and confiscate their motorbikes. Win-win. (Or win-a-Win. ;-) )
