That’s part of the reason why land has gone up outside of SHV area and Kampot.Barang chgout wrote: ↑Mon Jul 23, 2018 12:18 pmSo now you can buy 10 more!fatuousdrivel wrote:I paid a $10k “bride price” and apart from the ceremony where the family all held the cash for photos my wife got all of it.
She spent it a week later on some land in SHV in 2013. It’s now worth $100k! Smart.

Locals think that the same will happen in Kampot with regards to intense increase of land prices as happened in SHV.
We plan to build a forever house to live on that land. Not interested in living in Kampot.

Re: Advice about Bridewealth?
If the bride bolts or refuses the marriage, the girl’s family has to return the bride wealth. BUT it only applies to Khmer marrying Khmer. Apparently it is perfectly acceptable for the girl to bolt on a foreigner and the family keeps it all.
Re: Advice about Bridewealth?
Ah Newkid, still believing everything Birdy tells you...No, it is not perfectly acceptable, the family would lose face if that happened.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Tue Jul 24, 2018 2:02 am If the bride bolts or refuses the marriage, the girl’s family has to return the bride wealth.
