Kenyan Volunteer Asked to Show $1,000 USD at Phnom Penh Airport or She Can't Enter Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

"It's not that we single out black people, but it's all those black people (pointing out at the cells behind him) that cause trouble all the time." He had no idea he actually said the most racist thing ever.

That is certainly racialist,,,,, calling Chinese ,,, black people.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

yet you have an opinion on how you would find it strange that a western host might be preferred in a community to cinema over a khmer
I've never murdered a person, I've never participated in an orgy...

Was she hot?
Maybe they thought "volunteering for cinema" meant something illegal.

Oh god, Ramon is playing the 'tough guy' who is demanding 'his rights': "I am free to stand anywhere" and "Please detain me or arrest me if I do something wrong. Make my day."

Not going to work out well. Not in Cambodia, as he should know after having been here many years. He's the next to get deported. They'll find a reason.

One thing is for sure: the name Ramon Stoppelenburg gets special attention at every Cambodian entry or exit point...

"returned to the Removal Center to give out food"
Wow, what a generous gift from Ramon.
If only he would have slipped in $750 for his 'friend', the problem would have been solved, no?
I suppose the "empty out the entire Blue Pumpkin deli at the airport" was a bit less, in terms of money...

I'm trying to understand this.
You're having a cinema business in Phnom Penh (The Flicks), running on volunteers.
Whatever your thoughts of this (why no locals, etc.), let's say: Okay.
It's running well, for years volunteers are coming in from all over the world, until... 1 volunteer (who happens to be from an African country) gets stuck at the airport for not having $1000 in cash on her.
Again, whatever you think of this (I was never asked to show cash at the airport), WHAT would you do?
I'd say: get to the airport, hand over the cash she was short on ($750), done.
What am I missing here?
