Some can. Also worth a try if possible.

Re: UK Tourist Visa for Khmer Girlfriend
I know of a certain English guy who has, according to her, promised his Khmer wife/partner that he will take her and her 4/5 children (I lost count) to England.
Not one of the children is obviously of mixed blood (he is Caucasian)
I bit my tongue and just said ' That's nice', as it is non of my business, but I would imagine the UK is now one of the most difficult countries in the world to do this in, maybe the US is harder.
In my opinion, why should a citizen not be allowed to choose whence his wife comes?

Easy. Most citizens of any country don't like immigrants. Especially if they stay and the state pays the bill. Tourists are welcome.

But the US was built on multinational immigration. That's its strength, not weakness.

Yes, sorry, I was assuming the lady in question is not from the higher echelons. Of course I may be wrong about that.

The question was - "Do you intend to get married while you are here in the UK?"Cam Nivag wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 3:20 pmWhat question was answered too candidly?armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 2:10 pm Having said that, she can certainly be refused entry, I know of one case where this happened because one question was answered too candidly.

OP another thing to think about, will this be a one off visit? Why I ask! She may love or hate it. If she likes it then she may want to move. If she hates it then she never wants to go again. Easy? Not quite this can be a start of many problems to come.
I like I have explained did this with my Thai girlfriend, long before there were the engagement visa 75.000baht then the marriage visa 150.000baht and then after the marriage in the UK she still would have to return to Thailand and apply for a resident visa. Even then if she worked and paid tax and NI, she could not sign with a local GP. Only get emergency treatment. That is a two year period.

She was visiting on tourist visa and admitted upon landing that she intended to marry (and overstay)?armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 4:47 pm

I think guys err by providing all sorts of evidence of their relationship with a woman when trying to get her a tourist visa to his home country. At least as far as the USA is concerned, the consular officers want to see that tourist visa applicants have strong ties to their home country and weak ties to the USA.
What chorlton's girlfriend will need to prove is that she has a compelling reason to return to Cambodia. And since chorlton is the driving force behind this trip, and she goes where he goes, that means she may have to prove that chorlton has a compelling reason to return to Cambodia.

Nothing to do with potential overstay. Cannot marry on a visitor visa.
Re: UK Tourist Visa for Khmer Girlfriend
Eight months ago, chorlton posted this about his plans for Cambodia:
So the question becomes, if chorlton and his girlfriend enter the UK, what compelling reason would he have to return with her to Cambodia? If she can't show why they would return, her application may be denied. After just over 1 year travelling around Asia, Oz & NZ I'm returning to Siem Reap that I visited on a tourist visa back in March.
Planning to get a business visa on arrival, rent an apartment for 6-months, buy a motorbike, sniff around for new/existing business opportunities, get a tan, loose a stone & join tinder
