Re: question about goats
Mostly Chams (Khmer Muslims) eat goats here.

Had goat ribs at a restaurant in Siem Reap just the other day. Tasty but not a lot of meat on them.

Re: question about goats
There are herds of goats roaming around the Oudong village on the other side of the mountain. They look like boer crossed with saanan goats.
We could use fresh goats milk in the soap enterprise so I've occasionally thought about setting up a poor neighbour with a few milkers, with excess milk going to local kids, but have been told repeatedly that the milk wouldn't get used.

Bodge: This ain't Kansas, and the neighbours ate Toto!
Re: question about goats
There is a worldwide shortage of goats. Malaysia is a huge potential market but it's unsuitable. Goats like heat and dry feet. Malaysia have tried to have them in big sheds but doesn't work. Cambodia and northeast Thailand are perfect.

Re: question about goats
I ate lots of wild goat when I was a kid as we couldn't afford to buy meat. The biggest problem is firstly the type of goat they have here is not a '' meat type '' of goat, and secondly only young goats should be harvested for meat if you want a tender meat. All male goats should be castrated while young , especially if they are kept for over six months, as if they aren't they will have a very strong taste.
Big opportunities for someone to run breeding goats in the palm oil plantations, as goats are '' browsers '' in other words they like a bite here and a bite there and move on to something fresh for another bite.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: question about goats
Except for the 6 months of the year everywhere is wet and muddy. Plenty of goats around, like TG said, Chams keep them, I've often been tempted to buy a pair, but have limited space and don't think the neighbors would take to kindly to having their flowers/washing eaten.
