Families Homeless after Fire Blazes Through 10 houses in Phnom Penh
PHNOM PENH - A fierce fire broke out around 1.30am on June 2 in Khan Meanchey district of Phnom Penh. A loud explosion awoke the inhabitants of the quarter just before the fire broke out. The fire brigade was called immediately, and it took the fire-fighters just an hour to overcome the blaze.
However, in that time, ten homes were destroyed and ten families were made homeless. The speed of the fire meant that not much was saved. No fatalities were reported.

And this is in the wet season. I hope the dry season doesn't follow suit.

Amazing how these brick and tile shitboxes burn so quickly and the fire spreads so easily. Probably spreads through the same ventilation that lets the hot air OUT. Acts like a conduit to suck super heated air IN.

Judging by the kindling it looks like most of the roofs had wooden frames. That and a few years' worth of cobwebs and other flammable detritus means it just jumps from building to building, sucking in air through the doors and windows that don't fit.Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 7:51 am Amazing how these brick and tile shitboxes burn so quickly and the fire spreads so easily. Pre-dawn blaze razes ten homes
July 3, 2018
A pre-dawn fire razed ten homes in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district yesterday. Deputy district Governor Dy Roth Khemrun said that nobody was hurt in the blaze which occurred at 1.30am in Chak Angre Krom commune. He said the fire was caused by an electrical fault and that it was extinguished in about an hour.
He noted that firefighters used 22 trucks from the Ministry of Interior, the Phnom Penh municipal police department and Cambodia Beer Company to battle the fire.
Municipal Fire Department director Prom Yorn said the razed corrugated tin-roofed houses were made entirely of wood which caused the fire to spread fast.
“Because the road is so small, it was hard to bring the fire under control,” Mr Yorn added.
