Kampot. So WTF?

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

You say you came by often then you should have called in for a drink and a little food. We were certainly open and catering for our customers.

Then again if you came at the back end, no sorry we are away. Like I quoted I am looking also at something in another provenance.

Has nothing to do with Chinese, happens every low season...in fact, happens all year round in Kampot. Travelers come, fall in love with the place, think its a great idea to open/buy an existing GH/restaurant/bar, realise its near impossible to make any profit let-alone a living due to the town being over saturated, then they sell (usually at an over inflated price to the next unsuspecting fool).

I think we will see even more of this with the influx of business owners relocating to Kampot from Shitsville.

Yes, there are a few long term businesses which have been for sale recently, but for different reasons (retiring, moving back to home country, etc).
Exactly

Your very welcome. But now you have me concerned about the road. What road are we talking about?

shnoukieBRO wrote: Sat Jun 30, 2018 9:23 pm Kampot seems to attract the dregs of society judging from their dress sense. Needs a coat of paint too.

Hopefully more Snookie business folks will come over and create some better venues for drinking and entertainment. Current offerings are crummy and in some need for up grading.

I'm not saying nights are dull as duck😀

I can at least credit you for consistency, but your handle is all about ShnoukieBRO so your bias is evident, so why do you consistently snipe at Kampot? And always the same moans?

There is no difficulty in spotting the Snooky migrants in Kampot - wife beaters, cheap restaurants and the rising number of single old codgers drinking beer outside the minimarts. These are the "dregs of society" and they are mostly all yours.

Already a fair few SHV businesses relocated as evidenced by the $3 BBQ and pizza places abounding.

Fair enough Kampot is not for your tastes but you are relentlessly droning

So you object to old folk sitting outside a shop with seating having a beer?. And people wearing vests. The dregs of society, really?
How can anyone be so pompous to suggest that there is a class system amongst expats in a 3rd world developing country. Some are richer, have more income than others, that is it!. It ain't Côte d'Azur or even Monte Carlo, it's the cheapest place in SE Asia! What is one supposed to wear in 30c+ heat of the day, a 3 piece suit? Maybe all the old folk should cover up their bare arms, sit indoors or stay back in their country, in some retirement home in case you are offended.

Dregs are society to me are drug addicts, dealers and thieves. Oh and Lawyers!

"dregs of society" is a quote from this forums most regular negative poster about Kampot. Without his clear definition as to what constitutes his vague observation I assumed he was referring to what is an increased ratio of gentle refined older gentlemen resplendently attired in suitable tropical clothing sipping slowly on gin and tonic ( to ward of malaria ) at a streetside cafe.

Most long time Kampot expats will agree there has been an influx of ex Snooky-villeans in the past 6 months due to the changes to their environment in Snooky. Unfortunately this includes the riff-raff, destitutes, druggies and thieves and conmen. Anybody who has spent more than a week down there will have no problem recognising them as a subculture that was quite evident. The gents I referred to above, drinking gin & tonic, are obviously a different type as well as many fine expats who have made the decision to relocate.

Hardly pompous to suggest there is a class system amongst expats in Cambodia ( or in fact anywhere there is a significant expat population ) and you only need to look here and TOF to see the denigration of backpackers, flashpackers and, god forbid, hipsters.

You forgot car salesmen
