Advice from an expat needed

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Advice from an expat needed

Post by hft_trader »

Hello All,

I am planning on comeing to PP and SR next year and was hoping for some advice.

1. I'm not the mongering type but may partake. Is it as dangerous STD wise as it sounds? If money was no object, is there anything or anywhere safer than anywhere else?

2. IS anyone familiar with any services where you can dine with a local family?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Perfectly safe. Banging hookers in third world countries is probably about as risky as secondhand vaping. [Of course it's dangerous. Wear a condom.]

I see a '2 birds with 1 stone' opportunity here. Ask the slapper to go eat with her family.

But no, I've never heard of that service. I'm sure there's some tourism agents in Siem Reap who would be glad to take your $40 and throw you on an 'authentic' food tour at a local's house.

My wife will happily present you some cooked papaya with steamed rice, she might even throw in some free prahoc. Won't get more local than that. I will not get involved in the price negotiations though.

There is an app called ResiRest that you can do exactly this. I haven't used it but know a couple of people who have and they enjoyed it.

Only seems to be in Siem Reap for now.

Or you could just ask someone when you get here

Sounds like a semi-normal Guy, at the very least!

Likes women, health-conscious, knows the best value for food, and doesn't mind "tropical conditions." Haha.

You'll go a long way with that recipe here. :)

Thanks everyone for the input. When i posted, I had been reading the forum for about an hour and was convinced that some meth addicted prostitute with aids was going to throw acid in my face, accuse me of rape, and steal my phone. I was not in the right frame of mind.

At any rate, I really want to come enjoy the culture and hopefuly contribute to the local economy.

I apprecaite your help.

Not sure if he and his family are still offering hospitality, but if you're looking to get away from the city and experience real Cambodia, message Taabarang.

Can he bring along his STD-ridden, battle-scarred, meth-addled chick that he picked up off the streets though? Or would that be somewhat of a faux-pas?

Something he'd have to check with Taa I suppose, but I can't imagine Taa would want that sort of behaviour around the family.
