Boys soccer team trapped in flooded cave.

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

LOL, my thoughts as well but apparently they are huge Man U fans, pretty much like the rest of Thailand.

Lets see if the king does right by 3 of these kids and their coach
Four of those who were trapped in Tham Luang cave, including the coach, are stateless refugees from the Myanmar borderlands. Forget about World Cup tickets, give these kids and their coach Thai citizenship

IMPORTANT UPDATE

WASHINGTON, DC—The American President Donald Trump has had his offer to visit the White House rebuffed by the rescued Thai boys, who instead have voted unanimously to return to the watery cave.

The cave which is now over 95% full of water has still been deemed more inviting than the White House especially to young children who would likely be seen as migrants and detained by ICE.

“They’ve been to hell and back and now you want to send them to another hell? No. These boys have been through enough,” said the boys’ soccer coach firmly.

This may have already been posted, I haven't read the full thread.

ABC Australia has provided a good web-media overview of the event at http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-07-13/t ... es/9985286 for anyone else who didn't follow the blow by blow.

It's absolutely amazing that the boys were recovered, and the media does love a good underground rescue story. But with all compassion to the boys and their families, and the family of the deceased SEAL, I couldn't engage fully with this story while refugee kids (and their families) are being refused basic human rights elsewhere in the world. Nope, not virtue signalling, just sad.

Also on the BBC,

Extract:
John Volanthen and Rick Stanton had been braving Tham Luang's narrow, murky passageways for several days, laying out guide ropes and searching for signs of life.
On Monday, the two men finally reached Pattaya Beach. But there was nothing.
They continued onwards into the darkness. Then, a few hundred metres further, they found an air pocket.
"Wherever there is air space we surface, we shout, we smell," John told the BBC. It's a standard procedure for such rescue operations.
"We smelt the children before we saw or heard them."
Soon, the light from John's torch illuminated an electrifying sight - the boys emerged from the darkness, coming down the ledge towards him.
