Getting money from UK to the Kingdom

Post by EdinWigan »

What are the options?

Which are the best ways of getting earned income or savings from the UK to a bank in Cambodia?

Tax either end?

Sterling to Dollar

Keeping a Dollar account here and using the ATM , against bank transfer?

Charges?

Cheapest (Charges UK, Cambodian or Other banks)

Lots of advice welcome

Many thanks

After fiddling with a couple of options (carrying currency, transfer for cash for a friend, Western Union, PayPal) we found that the fastest and cheapest option is bank-to-bank international transfer. Takes about two business days from our Australian ANZ account to our Canadia account, $24 charge from the home end, no charges at this end. Our home account allows us to transfer in USD at the prevailing rate.

SC, are you sure about that? I also regularly transfer money from my ANZ Aus acct to my Canadia acct and am always charged an inward remittance fee from Canadia. If you definitely aren't being charged at this end, please let me in on your secret.

Edit: Here are the fees charged by Canadia Bank.

and here are ABA's.

OP...SWIFT transfers are the easiest, safest, cheapest option IMO, especially if you have internet banking which allows you to make international transfers and you should be able to choose the currency you want to transfer in, as SC said.

I have bank accounts with Canadia, Acleda and ABA in Cambodia. I highly recommend ABA, their internet banking is excellent, whereas Canadias is useless and Acledas is non-existent. ABA and Acleda both offer Visa and/or Mastercard Debit Cards, Canadia does not.

Well I was, but I'm not now... I'll get the passbook updated and look for charges. Thanks for the heads-up.

Anyone know if Canadia charges to use an ABA ATM?

Yes, ATM transactions with a Canadia card are only free at Canadia ATMs.

Which is unfortunate as Canadia ATMs rarely work.

Try this firm;
http://www.rationalfx.com/
Used them before for a number of years, never had any problems and great rates.
You need a bank account in PP to transfer to but open RFX account with and while have UK credentials which is linked to your UK card.
It's all online after that. You can be anywhere and transfer your dosh.
Their first limit without further enquiry is £2,500.00, anything at £2,450 is automatic transfer ;)
