I would think the US goverment can do whatever they want to their employees on US soil and wouldn't be surprised that its in their employment contract they, and their personal items can be searched.

Yes I think that a search of the employees' phones without warrant would be normal for security reasons in an embassy job. I'm surprised that they don't have to check their phones in when they enter the base. The down playing of naming it underage porn instead of child pornography is weird too.

There are most likely different tiers of security clearances at the embassy. Each having more stringent requirements and more in depth background checks in order to obtain it.

The Cambodians working deep inside the compound doing citizen / immigrant service work probably work under a different set of protocol than the goofballs that run the metal detectors and confiscate your keys for the duration of your visit.

Those guys always seemed pretty relaxed whenever I've visited, coking and joking amongst themselves and I'm sure I can recall on at least one occasion noticing one leaning on his elbow, swiping at an Iphone.

The original press release/posting mentioned pornography. Now it seems mention of "underage" pornography. That is quite an accusation especially considering the number (25-30) of adults involved. And they are publicly protesting the issue. Hard to believe but this is KOW.
