We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If these guys get deported, it must be costing Cambodia a lot of cash.
A sound long-term investment.

Sure, but maybe tightening up borders would be cheaper.

I thought I recognised on of the guys in the lineup and he wasn't in church today, so figured Immigration had finally caught up with him. Turns out he's from that group and avoided being detained, but is laying low.

Same guy got some medical treatment a few months ago and was injected with completely the wrong medication, nearly killed him (no need to be insensitive here, he's a good guy) and was very touch and go for a while.

Foreign gang members face deportation
18 June 2018
Thirty-five Nigerian men and a Vietnamese man have been arrested for working and staying illegally in Cambodia.
Lieutenant General Uk Hai Seila, investigations chief with the Interior Ministry’s immigration department, said they were detained on Saturday after immigration police, in cooperation with a Phnom Penh Municipal Court prosecutor, raided a rental apartment in Meanchey district.

“They were foreign gang members who entered to hide, work and live illegally in Cambodia,” he said.

After their arrests, police seized passports, phones and other related material from them, he added, noting all the passports and other relevant documents were forged.

They were being temporarily detained for questioning and further investigation at the immigration department police unit near Phnom Penh International Airport. They will be deported to their countries this week.

Lt Gen Hai Seila said that immigration police were seeking the arrest of other foreigners working and living without proper documents in the country. They, too, would be deported.

According to an immigration police department report, more than 15,000 foreign immigrants have been arrested for working and living without proper documents and expelled from Cambodia.

Most of these were Chinese nationals, Vietnamese nationals and Nigerians.
