Post by phuketrichard »

some interesting words..
Suu Kyi: 'elected government cannot direct military operations. So of course, we do not have the kind of overall control that will be exercised by a wholly democratic government'

Myanmar's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi sat down for her first one-on-one interview with NHK in 5 years. In the interview, Aung San Suu Kyi told NHK World correspondent Orie Sugimoto that deep-rooted anti-Rohingya sentiment cannot be resolved overnight.
No mention of the attacks on civilians in Kachin
If we look at the legislature you can see very clearly that we are only 75% democratic. Because only 75% of our representatives are elected by the people.
25% are given to the military.

Having traveled to Burma since before the 88 uprising, i can say the Burmese seem happier, have more access to the outside world, a better life, (for some), an have more freedoms.
but, still over 220,000 in IDP camps Inside Myanmar and hundreds of thousands in Bangladesh and Thailand.

There is still much that needs to be done.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
